Best of luck to our talented graduates Benjamin Rackett and Nadeem Zaman, as well as everyone else taking their ACA Advanced exam this week! Believe in yourself, trust in your abilities, and success will follow.   At Hays, we’re passionate about nurturing talent. Each year, we welcome a small number of finance graduates, providing them with an opportunity to start their professional journey with us. For over 13 years, we have given talented graduates the chance to build their work experience within our finance teams while earning their ACA qualification.   It is crucial that businesses invest in young talent, they are our leaders of tomorrow and will shape the future of our organisations. We have seen many of our finance graduates go on to have fulfilling careers within Hays. Omair Qureshi ACA, Vincenzo Leporiere, Mirelle Olivier ACA and Harsimran Sibia, who all joined Hays as part of our graduate scheme, have gone on to start or are about to start senior international finance roles in Hays. Congratulations to the four of you, it has been a pleasure to see your careers grow and your success is greatly deserved, and I wish you the best of luck in your new roles. To all graduates: your achievements are a testament to your hard work and dedication, and I trust your efforts will be rewarded. Best of luck.

At the end of 2023, LinkedIn VP Aneesh Raman predicted that “People skills are going to come more to the centre of individual career growth”. So what are these people skills, and why are they important? Examples include: 🔹 Communication: By being a strong communicator, you’re more likely to be good at networking too. 🔸 Empathy: This requires that you are ready to understand someone’s point of view. Empathy is invaluable for building relationships and trust. 🔹 Confidence: By having confidence in your own abilities, you can positively affect and motivate others. 🔸 Accountability: Showing accountability means owning your work, recognising that mistakes can happen and taking steps to move forward. 🔹 Honesty: Being honest and transparent will build trust, whether you’re a member of a team or in a leadership position. 🔸 Patience: By improving patience, especially in high performance situations, you will be better placed to identify the causes of these areas of stress. Why are they important? ⬆️ Creating opportunities: Being confident and open to working with the people around you will expose you to new experiences and opportunities. 🙂 Keeping calm: The ability to work through difficult situations will help you build the confidence to cope with whatever your role may throw at you. 🤝 Solving conflicts: Strong people skills will help you to see things from different perspectives, so you can diffuse the situation and make lasting disagreements much less likely. 🗨️ Avoiding misunderstandings: Clear communication can simplify instructions and ideas, whilst avoiding misunderstandings. 👐 Promoting tolerance: Understanding the differences between personality types and backgrounds will help you to get on with a wider range of people. #skills #softskills #topskills

Applying for jobs but not got much experience? Don't panic! There is a big emphasis on skills-based hiring right now, meaning that if you can show off your skills, you could be successful. Here are 5 steps for writing a skills-based CV 👇 1️⃣ Identify the key skills Read the job description to find any keywords that you should include. 2️⃣ Write a unique personal statement Make an effort to tailor your personal statement for every application. Mention your relevant skills and talk about how you believe the role will help you further develop. 3️⃣ Add your skills and employment history In a skills-based CV, each section will be for a different… you guessed it – skill! Choose one that's relevant for the role, then add information about how and where you developed these. 4️⃣ Remove anything that won’t help you If you lack experience, it can be tempting to write more so that you look more qualified. In fact, that can actually harm your chances. Go back through your CV and remove any irrelevant parts. 5️⃣ Think about what to send with your CV If there's space for an accompanying message or cover letter, explain how you think your existing skillset would make you a strong candidate. Don’t reference that you’re missing experience - instead, focus on what you bring to the table.
