The International Olympic Committee – IOC is making moves towards a healthier mind for athletes as noted in their latest Mental Health Action Plan. Recently, there has been a lot of talk about the negative impact of social media. However, it's also important to consider the positives that it can provide. In this article, the Daymark Foundation reveals the therapeutic benefits of psychoeducation via social media for mothers and how many mothers - old and new - turn to social media for information and support. https://lnkd.in/eiZ9rHPN

So much incredible mental health news coming out of the community today! 😃 And here's another one...! "New NHS-approved online therapies could help two to three times the number of children and adults recover from anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, research suggests." https://lnkd.in/emvqH6JC Congrats to Oliver Harrison, MD MPH and the whole team at Koa Health 👏 #mentalhealth #therapy #digitaltherapy #NHS #accesstocare

Thank you Deborah Diedericks for this important piece on how funders can support youth mental health. As Deborah so beautifully puts it - 'We don’t have to start from scratch, just adjust the recipe.' Mental health touches on all aspects of life and so one of the most impactful things that one can do - whether you are a funder or an organization - is to find ways to layer and integrate a mental health focus into existing programs and services. Read the full article at the link below - lots of food for thought! 💭 https://lnkd.in/ez3_TC5E

A massive shoutout to Christian Elam, Jen Libby, MSW, LCSW, and everyone else who has been pushing to get this bill passed. This is a huge moment and now onto getting it through the House 💪
Today is a monumental milestone for American history. The Senate has voted 91-3 to pass the bi-partisan Kids Online Safety Act, protecting children from the harms of social media. What is the most significant of this effort is it marks it as the first time in U.S. history that youth representation has been formally built into a federal policy, as far as we know, and hopefully will set precedent for future policy initiatives. I am deeply honored to have been the co-author on this piece of the legislation alongside Scarlet Rose Biedron. Ever since we started having this conversation around building in the youth voice in an official way with the bill, we have received nothing but great support from Senator Blumenthal and Senator Blackburn, the co-sponsors for KOSA. I have met with dozens of senate and congressional teams alongside Jen Libby, MSW, LCSW, the Promly team and our lobbyist, and it has been very hopeful to see that in a time of great divide and polarization in this country, we can come together. I have not noticed the difference between which office was democrat or republican when talking about this issue -- most of the time forgetting which side of the aisle they sit on. This gives me as a Gen Zer and my peers hope that older folks in power are listening and care about the problems we face and can set aside their difference to come together on subjects that matter, while giving the future generation a seat at the table (not just a focus group). The hardest part about passing this legislation has been to hear the continuous dreadful stories of parents who have lost their children to suicide as a result of this policy not being put in place and hearing what they didn't know was going to be the last moment with their child, not knowing the alternate reality of what their kid was facing. To all the parents, I give my deepest condolences for your loss, and thank you for channeling that grief into a relentless fight for this policy so that hopefully a lot less parents in the future will have to go through the same feeling. Now that KOSA has passed in the Senate, we will be channeling our efforts to the House to get this over the finish line, and I appreciate all of your support in making that happen. Thank you to all the senators who have been in support of this bill since the beginning, the parents for reliving and sharing their tragic stories, our lobbying firm who has made all the magic happen, the tech firms who have pledged to collaborate, and all the other non-profits who have advocated tirelessly. Together we are changing outcomes, and today proves that.
