Let's talk about female contraception.   Today, I had the opportunity to attend an internal talk on contraception held by the Women in Business team at THG with our in house GP who specialises in female health, a topic I always want to learn more about to understand my own body. 🫶🏼   It was an eye-opening and empowering session with Dr Ishrat delving into crucial topics covering the various contraception methods available and their impacts on women's health. So here are a few of my takeouts:👇🏽   ✨ Education: Understanding all methods of contraceptive options is essential in choosing the correct one for your body and needs. From hormonal methods like the pill and IUDs to non-hormonal options such as condoms and diaphragms, each method has its own benefits and considerations. ✨ Choice: There is no one-size-fits-all solution. It's vital for women to have access to personalised healthcare advice to choose the best contraception method that aligns with their health needs and lifestyle. ✨ Health Impacts: Contraceptives do more than prevent pregnancy; they can also play a role in managing menstrual health, reducing the risk of certain cancers, and addressing hormonal imbalances. ✨ Empowerment Through Knowledge: Empowering women with information about their health and contraception options leads to better health outcomes and greater autonomy over their reproductive choices.   It is so important for companies to educate on "tabboo" topics like this to ensure women feel supported in making informed decisions about their bodies.   SO let's continue to advocate for accessible, inclusive, and informed healthcare for all women! 💪✨   #WomenHealth #Contraception #HealthEducation #Empowerment #Wellness #Healthcare

Founder & CEO at THG | Building a global giant from the UK

I feel like I’ve blinked and it’s gone! I swear each year goes faster. It’s 12 months since THG bought City AM, with questions rightly asked as to THG’s intentions for such a prominent business news publication. I was on holiday when I asked Rebecca Dixon for a Teams call. She was running a small media business in THG, called Preloved, and had quickly proved herself to be a real talent. Despite having minimal resources, she'd made the role her own, improving performance where others previously struggled. On the call, I asked Rebecca to step up and help manage the City AM acquisition that would soon be announced. She jumped at it, telling me she was more than ready for the challenge and that, as full-time working mum of 2 young children, nothing much fazed her. On announcing the deal, the first thing we did was invest. Harry Owen was recruited to head up City AM and asked to rapidly build out quality business content at a time when most media outlets were cutting content. 12 new journalists joined and a national news desk launched in Manchester. Rebecca then had THG Ingenuity replace all City AM tech and hardware, rebuilding the website, and launching its first ever mobile app. The quarterly CityAM magazine was relaunched, with high-profile front-page interviews, including Prime Minister Kier Starmer. It’s been bumpy, these things always are. But the investment is showing signs of paying off. Monthly unique users have grown from 1m at acquisition to 2.5m today, providing broader audiences for THG’s partners, including our own brands such as LOOKFANTASTIC.COM, Cult Beauty & Myprotein. Now that City AM has built a clear market leading content proposition, we’ve been exploring partnerships to further scale the reach of City AM. Last week, we took a major step by agreeing a deal between THG and Reach plc. Under the deal, City AM branded business content is now appearing in both print and online across Reach’s major titles, including Daily Express, Manchester Evening News and Liverpool Echo.  Reach is Britain's largest newspaper, magazine and digital publisher, reaching 38.6million people every month. This is an exciting milestone, with Reach contributing to the cost of producing CityAM’s content in return for Reach’s vast print and digital audiences accessing CityAM’s daily business and finance content. Within just 12 months, Rebecca and Harry have guided CityAM from the brink to now becoming Britain’s No1 business media outlet. For the journalists working 24/7 to cover global business news, their content is now served up to a huge global audience – which has to be a big motivation. City AM still has a long road ahead to fulfil its potential. Yes, the last 12 months went in a blink, but we’re well on our way. And, with THG now the UK’s No 1 publisher of business news……well that brings a smile to a few faces 😉 #media #businessnews #evolution

    FP&A Fulfilment THG

From joining THG in November 2011 till now, I can happily say that deciding to take an apprenticeship with THG was the best decision and opportunity to kickstart my career at the age of 17. Even though it's close to 13 years of service, I still have very clear and fond memories of the beginning. My interview with my still current manager, Martin Culkin, took place in the shared reception area of Meridian House (for those of you that don’t know, we shared a building with Nationwide at the time). My first day was memorable, not only because there wasn’t space next to my boss. I was placed halfway across the office opposite the communal Xbox 360 where I witnessed many of the Sean Gilraine and Matthew Moulding FIFA matches. Eventually, we managed to get a new desk put in, and this was the first time I was welcomed into what was then called the ‘Engine Room’. I had the privilege of working around some very talented people back then who are now the success stories of THG, such as Adam Knappy, Martin Culkin. The chance to work around these types of people gave me a real sense of the working attitude you should take towards your everyday work. That’s not to say we didn’t have our share of laughs. Like the time I got banned from the group bake sale for spiking a steak pie with the world’s hottest chili extract, or our frequent meetings in the infamous Meridian boiler room due to a shortage of meeting spaces. We even conducted interviews there! One unforgettable moment was when Jon Parton, our finance director at the time, spotted a spider mid-meeting and nearly re-enacted a cartoon-style escape, almost running through a wall. Working at THG has taught me invaluable lessons. I’ve learned the importance of adaptability, the power of teamwork, and the value of relentless hard work. These lessons have shaped me into the professional I am today. One of the career highlights has been witnessing THG’s incredible growth. From turning over £143m when I first joined to c.£2.1b in FY24, the journey has been phenomenal. Being part of this success story is something I take immense pride in. THG has always had the ethos of hard work and grind, and this is a testament to the business THG has built and ingrained into its people, including myself. Yes, it's hard, and yes, we face new challenges every day, but that’s why people like me stay. It feels like a new job every year, just the way the company pivots and deals with tough challenges or new opportunities. I can happily say I am THG through and through. I am proud to be part of the story, and I can't wait to see what the next decade holds for THG. Here’s to many more years of growth, challenges, and success! #20Years20Stories #WeAreTHG #THG20

    Senior DBA at THG

I have been working for THG for over seven years now. The tremendous growth that THG has gone through has provided me with my own significant professional and personal growth. To put this in context, I always like to refer back to the very beginning of my journey. In 2016, I applied for a Computer Science placement and had my interview on the Thursday before Black Friday. When I arrived at Stables in Gadbrook Park, preparations were underway for the busiest weekend of the year for THG: boxes filled with mouth-watering pizza were being carried into the office, and there was a debate on the best location for the DJ’s setup. From that very moment, just getting a glimpse of what life at THG looked like, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Fast forward a few months to my first day at THG. After our induction tour of Gadbrook Park, all the new starters were taken back to the Stables to wait for our managers to come and collect us. When my manager arrived, after introductions, he asked if I knew what team I would be joining. I responded ‘no’ (expecting to join a development team). He went on to tell me that I would be a DBA, to which I very directly asked, ‘What’s a DBA?’. Not only did he not run when I said this, but he is still my manager to this day. As you can probably guess by now, when I joined THG, I had no previous DBA experience and knew basically nothing about databases other than what was taught during a very short university course. But throughout these years, I have learned a lot. Part of this development I owe to THG and the people with whom I have worked. I still remember our principal engineer sitting down with me on my first day and very enthusiastically introducing me to a lot of fancy terms that made little sense to me back then, such as replication and log shipping. Reflecting on my journey, I am immensely grateful for the opportunities and support I have received at THG. From the initial bewilderment of learning the ropes as a DBA to becoming confident in my role, each step has been a testament to the incredible mentorship and collaborative spirit here. The challenges I’ve faced and the successes I’ve celebrated have shaped me into the professional I am today. Jason Cooke Andrew Bickerton #20Years20Stories #WeAreTHG #THG20
