World Child Cancer

Child Palliative Care can be one of the most difficult challenges to face as a healthcare professional. That is why World Child Cancer, in cooperation with ICPCN, facilitated the training of 30 healthcare professions at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The training, provided by the sole expert in Child Palliative Care in Ghana, was a resounding success. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication of the health care professionals committed to enhancing the quality of life and dignity for children facing by sharing their skills and knowledge. Childhood cancer care is expensive. Between transport, taking time off work and the cost of healthcare, families in low- and middle- income countries can struggle to make ends meet. We were thrilled to welcome the Amgen team to Ghana! Amgen’s ongoing support is helping us transform the lives of children facing cancer around the world, and we couldn't be more grateful. During their visit, they toured our partner hospitals, visited Ghana College of Pharmacists, and met with members of Ghana Health Service and The Ministry of Health. It is estimated that as little as 12% of expected cases of childhood cancer will receive specialised treatment in Nepal, due to challenges in primary care. In June, we helped provided early warning signs training in Nepal to primary care physicians, nurses, medical officers and support teams; improving knowledge and skills to increase the number of children receiving care as early as possible. For both families and medical professionals, being able to identify early warning signs of childhood cancer results in a faster diagnosis and earlier treatment. According to the WHO, catching cancer early leads to better outcomes for the patient and less aggressive treatments, improving the quality of life for patients during their care.

We want to say a huge thank you and congratulations to one of our team members, Anna Ransome. Anna and her husband Steve completed an 86-mile challenge along Hadrian’s Wall in 30 hours. Together they have fundraised an incredible £500 for World Child Cancer. Thank you for taking on the challenge and raising money to help make a difference in the lives of so many children and their families.
