A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued in south-west England, with some areas expecting up to 60mm of rain in just a few hours.

The Met Office warning, which covers parts of UK holiday hotspots Devon and Cornwall, is in place from 1pm to 9pm on Friday.

The forecaster warned affected areas should expect slow-moving thunderstorms and torrential downpours which could bring disruption to public transport, difficult driving conditions caused by spray and sudden flooding on roads, as well as power cuts.

Heavy downpours may bring between 15mm to 30mm of rain in an hour and as much as 40mm to 60mm in several hours for the worst affected areas, along with hail and lightning, the Met Office said. The showers are expected to slowly ease in the evening.

The following maps demonstrate where the thunderstorms are likely to hit.
