Jamal Murray's ferocious poster dunk highlights this week's awards

AWARDS

CHEF OF THE WEEK

In sports the term “cookin” is reserved for a player who goes on a scoring spree or gets hot during a game and makes big plays on the offensive end.

This week’s “Chef of the Week” award goes to Mullins (Mullins, S.C.) guard Jalek Felton for dropping, count ‘em, 51 points a, 83-74, win over Myrtle Beach (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) at the Beach Ball Classic (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) this past weekend.

Felton went 15 of 27 from the field and a perfect 14 of 14 from the free-throw line in the win.

POSTER OF THE WEEK

This week’s Poster of the Week winner is Orangeville Prep (Ontario, Canada) point guard Jamal Murray for the ferocious poster he collected at the High School OT Holiday Invitational (Raleigh, N.C.) this past weekend in a, 67-63, win over Virginia Episcopal (Lynchburg, Va.).

Murray cut down the middle of the lane in transition and his teammate, Thon Maker, whipped a pass to him; from there it all went bad for the Virginia Episcopal defender.

Murray darted up, cocked the ball back with his right hand and threw down a monster jam over the defender who definitely shouldn’t have tried it.

The sold out crowd went absolutely bananas and Murray drained the free-throw to complete the and-one.

Well played.

OH NO THEY DIDN’T!

This award is reserved for the player who turned in a mind-boggling performance or play that left the crowd in a state of shock and amazement.

This week’s “Oh No They Didn’t” winner is Boulder Creek’s (Anthem, Ariz.) Matt Downey for the full-court baseball shot he nailed in a, 58-39, win over Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) earlier this month.

Downey took the inbounds pass on the left side of the court, launched a prayer of a shot to beat the clock and the ball ricocheted off the glass for the score.
