VIDEO: Teen placekicker Brandon Ruiz nails 76-yard field goal in practice

‘Tis the season … for young placekickers to launch absurdly lengthy field goal attempts during spring practice. Once in awhile they connect from a truly historic distance, as Williams Field (Ariz.) kicker Brandon Ruiz did recently on his school’s home turf.

On a particularly seasonable day, a shirtless Ruiz lined up a practice kick off a tee from 76 yards away. He gave the ball a raucous boot and sent it hurdling all the way downfield … and straight through the uprights.

Ruiz shared his long distance hook-up on Twitter, gaining some social media attention and just a bit of verification; it’s one thing to say that you connected on a 76-yard field goal in practice, it’s another to show everyone how you did it.

An Arizona native, most of the college recruiting attention for Ruiz has come from in-state schools. Others could come knocking for a player who can genuinely be considered a game-changer, though it may not make a significant difference. Ruiz wants to contribute from Day 1, wherever he ends up, and based on recent evidence, he’s likely to get the chance.
