FilmNation Entertainment’s John Zois

Hollywood's New Leaders: 10 Assistants to Watch

Proudly self-described as “very ambitious and driven,” Zois is also fanatical — at least when it comes to movies. With the stamina of weekly a marathoner, he devours 350 films per year, eight to 10 scripts weekly and four books monthly, reviewing all this material on top of his daily duties. His input helps the sales team create estimates for the films, and the production & development unit determine if potential projects are a good fit for FilmNation. Recent good fits include Oscar winner “The King’s Speech”; Pedro Almodovar’s “The Skin I Live In”; Terrence Malick’s untitled love story starring Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams; and John Hillcoat‘s “The Wettest County in the World,” starring Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf. “Film is my passion, and my career’s my priority right now,” says Zois, who cut his teeth as a regional facility engineer with AMC Theaters and then as an assistant agent with the Gersh Agency. Future goals: “Acquisition and production development.”
