The Born for Broadway fundraiser for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation may be 10 years old — but tonight marks the first year it’ll actually be on Broadway.
The concert perf — to feature appearances by performers including Aaron Lazar, James Naughton, Malcolm Gets, Nikki M. James and “Glee” thesp Jenna Ushkowitz — was previously held at various non-Broadway venues, but this edition has moved on up to the Rialto’s American Airlines Theater.
The event is the brainchild of Sarah Galli, who 10 years ago produced the inaugural fundraiser after her brother suffered a high- level spinal cord injury. Born for Broadway has only grown from there: “It’s about raising awareness, and helping a community that hasn’t really had an outlet in the arts,” she says.
Her father, Richard Galli, penned a book about her brother’s accident, “Rescuing Jeffrey,” and the story had been a potential directing project for Christopher Reeve.

That’s how Sarah Galli connected with the Reeve Foundation and Matt Reeve, Christopher’s son.
For the foundation, Born for Broadway is now an extension of its Champions Committee of young philanthropists.
“All funds raised will support our mission — ‘Today’s Care. Tomorrow’s Cure.’ — and will fund our world-renowned international research program as well as our quality of life focus, including our brand new Peer and Family Support Program,” Matt Reeve says.
