“Team America” was co-written by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Pam Brady and directed by Parker.
Using marionettes, the plot centered on an American paramilitary group stopping a terrorist plot by the late Kim Jong Il, the father of current North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
“The Interview” revolves around Seth Rogen and James Franco‘s characters assassinating Kim Jong Un.
On Wednesday, U.S. officials told the New York Times and CNN that the North Korean government ordered the cyber attack that has paralyzed Sony Pictures in recent weeks.
UPDATE, 2:30 pm PST: The “Team America” screenings have been canceled because Paramount will not offer the film.
