Mel Gibson and Frank Grillo are in negotiations to star in the independent action-thriller “Boss Level,” with Joe Carnahan attached to direct from his own script.
Grillo will play a retired special forces veteran trapped in a never-ending loop resulting in his death every day.
The film will be financed by Emmett/Furla/Oasis, and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian, and Randall Emmett and George Furla. Production companies are Emmett/Furla/Oasis, Di Bonaventura Pictures, Carnahan and Grillo’s War Party, and Scott Free.
Gibson is currently starring as the father of Mark Wahlberg’s character in “Daddy’s Home 2” at Paramount. He received an Academy Award directing nomination this year for “Hacksaw Ridge” — his third Oscar nomination after winning for directing and producing “Braveheart” in 1995. He starred with Vince Vaughn in the police thriller “Dragged Across Concrete” and in the Irish historical drama “The Professor and the Madman,” portraying James Murray, who was the primary editor of the Oxford English Dictionary in the 19th Century.
Grillo starred in “The Purge: Anarchy” and “The Purge: Election Year” along with Chinese box office smash “Wolf Warrior 2.” Carnahan’s directing credits include “The Grey,” “Smokin’ Aces,” “The A-Team,” and “Narc.”
