The Last Of Us (TV Series)

"The Last of Us" is a 2023 American drama series from HBO adapted from the 2013 Naughty Dog video game of the same name. Created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, it explores a post-apocalyptic world 20 years after the onset of a pandemic. Pedro Pascal stars as Joel, a smuggler asked to transport a teenage girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the country, as she is immune to the fungal infection that has ravaged society and turned many into zombie-like creatures. As they travel, Ellie becomes a surrogate daughter for Joel, whose own child, Sarah (Nico Parker), was killed by a soldier on the pandemic's outbreak day.

The first season broke ratings records, averaging more than 30 million viewers per episode. In his review of the series, Variety's Daniel D'Addario wrote, "What works about 'The Last of Us' works well enough that one sees the near future in which the show winds up among television’s best. The raw material, including a poignant and thoughtful curiosity about what it might be like to live through catastrophe, is there." "The Last of Us" earned 24 nominations for the 75th Emmy Awards, making it the first live-action video game adaptation to earn major awards consideration. It was renewed for a second season in January 2023.
