Previously, Ann Coulter pointed out that illegal aliens have a higher crime rate than the native-born population. Ann took down someone named Alex Nowrasteh [Tweet him], of the libertarian Cato Institute and the author of studies justifying native-born American replacement. (BTW, the Libertarian Party just nominated an Open Borders homosexual. Sort of shows what a joke of a party it is.)

Now, Sharyl Attkisson has written a new Substack in which she uses the GAO’s own statistics to show that immigrant crime is actually higher than the native-born American crime.

The GAO summary highlighted this statistic: From 2011 through 2016, the criminal alien proportion of the total estimated federal inmate population generally decreased, from about 25 percent to 21 percent. “General decrease?” Readers might be left with the impression there’s been improvement, and so there is nothing to be concerned about.

But a fair examination of the report arguably leads to a far different implication.

According to the census, in 2014, about 7 percent of the US population were noncitizens or aliens—many of them illegal immigrants. That’s about one in 14 people. Yet the GAO says that criminal aliens accounted for one in five, and as many as one in four, prison inmates during the time period analyzed. That works out to about triple the number of criminal aliens that there should have been if they committed crime at the same rate as US citizens.

The reality may be even worse.

The actual picture is likely worse, since the GAO report only looked at a subset of imprisoned illegal immigrants and other criminal aliens. According to the report, primary data came from the Department of Justice (DOJ) State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP), which reimburses a portion of criminal alien incarceration costs. “GAO used SCAAP data because there are no reliable data available on all criminal aliens incarcerated in every U.S. state prison and local jail,” reads the report. On top of that, GAO notes there had been a decrease in the number of states and localities participating in the program, resulting in lower numbers reported. [Emphases in original]

Somewhat amusingly, it appears that Mr. Nowrasteh responded to Attkisson’s Substack article in her comment section.

No. Only a small percentage of nationwide prisoners are federal (about 10%). Most of the immigrants are in prison for immigration offenses and drug smuggling.

I explained it all here in detail years ago.

As someone else has pointed out, the crime rate among illegal aliens is 100% because they all committed the crime of violating 8 USC 1325. Just because the federal government doesn’t charge every last illegal alien with a criminal violation, but with an administrative one, does not mean that they are innocent of a criminal penalty.

That being said, the statistics are further confused because so many of the state and local jurisdictions are sanctuary districts that purposefully downplay offenses for illegal aliens to keep them from being deported, and often do not even record the immigration status of offenders.

Self-reports in statistics are notoriously inaccurate. So, relying on local jurisdictions to accurately report the crime rate is going to be unreliable. Even jurisdictions that are not officially sanctuary cities often cover for the poor little dearies.
