Menswear in the corporate space does not have to be safe and unassuming. In fact, the pre-autumn 2024 season is a stellar reflection of that shift in the zeitgeist. Picture sleek eyewear, fitted blousons, refined jewellery and textural tailoring, which are all great sartorial cues to level your game in an office setting.
Leading the charge are several of the biggest names in the menswear game. Take Daniel Lee’s Burberry as an example, with the house’s impeccable tailoring often seeing subversive updates through edgy detailing such as zippers and panels. Comme Des Garçons Homme Deux is Rei Kawakubo’s diffusion line that creates staple pieces that are wearable and understated, all while poking fun at conventional workplace attires. As for the romantic and fantastical, Simone Rocha adds a certain nuance to its pieces that is second to none, with ruches, embroidery and floral appliques softening up the traditional menswear silhouettes.
Then there’s Stefan Cooke, with its delectable selection of formal footwear that mainly revolves around derbies and loafers. They have gained somewhat of a cult following within the mesnwear space with their signature two-tone detailing and laser-cut embellishments. And of course, one cannot leave out legacy houses such as Brunello Cucinelli, who places an emphasis season after season on the quality and construction of fabrics within tried and proven menswear styles.
These brands are a huge testament to successfully navigating style in a red tape-ridden environment. Subtle but interesting details to still reflect one’s personality goes a long way in these spaces and can instil confidence and comfort in a man when he is out and about facing the world.
