Cabell County woman charged in shooting death of her brother

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A Cabell County woman is charged with murder in the shooting death of her brother, deputies said.

Seira Harmon, 25, is accused of shooting her brother, William, in the head during a family dispute overnight in Culloden, according to the Cabell County Sheriff Chuck Zerkle.

Zerkle said deputies were called to a home on Charleys Creek Road about 12:30 a.m. after Harmon called 911 stating she’d shot her brother.

When investigators arrived, they said they found William Harmon III dead and two other men -- including William's father -- with injuries, according to a criminal complaint filed in Cabell County Magistrate Court. The woman's brother was pronounced dead at the scene.

Harmon told deputies she'd aimed the gun, which she thought was on safe, at her brother because he was pointing a gun at her significant other, the complaint said.

A gun used in the shooting was found in a bush where Harmon had allegedly tossed it, the complaint said. Four spent bullet casings were found where Harmon was standing.

Deputies said they also found a gun under the center console of William's vehicle along with two spent casings.

Seira Harmon is being held on a first-degree murder charge in Western Regional Jail. No other information was immediately available.
