'Grudge Match': Peter Segal to Direct (And Five Aging Duos We'd Love to See Duke It Out)

Deadline reports that 'Get Smart' director Peter Segal has signed on to direct 'Grudge Match,' a comedy about two aging boxing rivals who are brought back into the ring for one final bout. The big question now is which elderly (we're talking in the age range of 60-70) actors will strap on the gloves and climb into the ring to punch the living daylights out of a fellow senior citizen? The original article dismisses the idea of a Robert De Niro vs. Sylvester Stallone situation (the duo had been rumored for the parts earlier in the month) and jokingly suggests a 'Bucket List' reunion between Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson (Segal has worked with Nicholson before on the 2003 comedy 'Anger Management,' so you never know).

In the spirit of what will surely be a film sold entirely on seeing two legendary actors face each other down, we've compiled several dream match-ups between aging legends, men who don't let broken hips and cataracts get in the way of their ass kicking! Read

Movie News Quick Hits: 'Muppet' Movie, Darth Vader For Sale and Batman Cat

- This big red button will improve your day ten fold, guaranteed.

- Warner Bros. have decided to keep production of 'The Hobbit' in New Zealand after all! Production on the $500 million enterprise will begin early next year with Martin Freeman starring as Bilbo Baggins.

- It'll be awhile before James Cameron gets behind the camera again for another film (see our 'Avatar' sequel news from earlier today), so in the meantime check out the trailer for a film he executive produced called 'Sanctum'. Utilizing a lot of the same 3D techniques found in 'Avatar', 'Sanctum' follows a team of underwater cave divers who find their lives in danger when they attempt to explore a part of earth not yet touched by humans.

- Leah Dunham, whose indie comedy 'Tiny Furniture' turned some heads at SXSW earlier this year, will be adapting 'Dash and Lily's Book of Dares,' the upcoming novel from the writing duo behind 'Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.'

- Jennifer Lynch will next direct 'Visibilty,' a supernatural thriller from 'Wall Street 2' screenwriter Allan Loeb. Lynch's quote to Variety about the project should help set the mood: "Loeb's 'Visibility' snuck up on me like a stranger at a party -- a safe place, a new face -- Mama warned me about scripts like this."

Exclusive 'Four Lions' Red-Band Clip: Watch the Comedic Side of Terrorism

WARNING: the following clip contains strong language.

By now, it's probably apparent that when Cinematical champions certain films, it's usually with good reason. Case in point: Chris Morris' 'Four Lions'. I really liked it at SXSW back in March, Scott really liked it at Sundance in January -- "grade-A high quality DARK comedy of the 'take no prisoners' variety" -- and starting next week, you'll get a chance to really like it yourself if/when the film comes to your town. (Release dates are listed along the right-hand side here, and if you just can't wait, Morris is doing a full-blown Stateside promotional tour that kicked off last night.)

'Lions' is a sharply satirical look at terrorism, focusing on four bumbling jihadists who are trying to orchestrate some sort of attack on London, but haven't a clue how to go about it. (One of them tries to plant a bomb on a crow, while another suggests blowing up "the Internet.") We're premiering a red-band clip below that offers a brief, profane look at what type of buffoonery awaits, especially whenever hotheaded Islamic convert Barry (Nigel Lindsay) tries to take charge.

The flagship release of Drafthouse Films (the very same minds behind the awesome Alamo Drafthouse theaters), 'Four Lions' goes into limited release on November 5th. Watch the red-band clip after the jump, and keep an eye out for our interview with Morris later on next week.

'Footloose' Remake Images: First Look at the New Stars

Twitter
: a vast social network, an efficient way to track your friends, a useful place to stalk your favorite celebrities and if you're director Craig Brewer, it's where you debut images from your upcoming remake of 'Footloose.'

First a 1984 Kevin Bacon-starring nostalgia favorite and then a 1998 stage musical, 'Footloose' is the easily parodied story of a city boy who moves to a small town where dancing and rock 'n roll are banned, and then proceeds to change everyone's minds by being awesome. Although multiple directors have attempted a remake in the past few years, Brewer is the first to actually get it off the ground, with filming in Georgia just about ready to wrap up. The man who made 'Hustle and Flow' and 'Black Snake Moan' may seem like an odd choice to take on this property, but considering how dull the prospect of a 'Footloose' remake actually is, at least an exciting filmmaker is involved.

As far as casting goes, we have Kenny Wormald (in the Kevin Bacon role), Dennis Quaid (in the John Lithgow role), Julianne Hough (in the Lori Singer role), and Andie McDowell (in the Dianne Wiest role). Dancing. Will. Happen. Feet. Will. Be. Loose.

'Footloose' is scheduled to hit your local movie house on April 1, 2011. Kick off those Sunday shoes and check out more images over at Brewer's Twitter page. Read

Martin Scorsese Boards 'Goodfellas' Prequel TV Series

Venerable filmmaker Martin Scorsese may be stretching his cinematic reach and putting the finishing touches on a family film (of all things) with next year's 'Hugo Cabret', but his creative ties to organized crime still run deep. He wants to bring alleged Mafia hanger-on Frank Sinatra to theaters, his politics and bootlegging 'Boardwalk Empire' recently hit television and rumors descended last month that his 1990 film 'Goodfellas' would also litter the small-screen streets with crime.

If you think there isn't enough criminal-centric love pouring out of your sets, this nugget of news should please you: What was once rumor now looks to be fledgling reality, if we can believe the scribe of the 'Goodfellas' source material, Nicholas Pileggi.

'The Dark Knight Rises' Is Title for 'Batman 3'; No 3D and Riddler Won't Be Villain

In a new interview over at Hero Complex, Christopher Nolan reveals that the title of the next Batman film will be 'The Dark Knight Rises', alluding to the film being about Batman returning to his heroic roots after fleeing Gotham as a wanted man at the end of 'The Dark Knight'.

Furthermore, Nolan ruled out the Riddler as being the main villain in the third installment, simply stating that "it won't be the Riddler." Another revelation to come from HC's interview with the elusive director is that Warner Bros. has agreed to not go the 3D route with ''The Dark Knight Rises', and instead will allow Nolan to do what he did with 'The Dark Knight' and balance both high-definition and IMAX cameras to help deliver a power punch up on the big screen.

"We'll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we'll be introducing some new ones," Nolan said, without revealing any names. However, while he may not be saying much, we can start with a process of elimination. So far we know it's not Riddler or Mr. Freeze, so considering The Dark Knight's title was just as much about Harvey Dent as it was about Batman, where do you think Nolan will go with 'The Dark Knight Rises'?
