Not sure where we should have this meetup, but I'm thinking Balboa Park would have ample parking and hopefully in a central location. Feel free to PM me if you think you have a better idea!

Yes, we're planning on doing a BBQ. It will be super awkward (story of my life) but it will be a lot of fun. We're still in the planning stages at this point, but it would be BYO(whatever). If anyone has any suggestions or comments please feel free to contact me, I definitely am going to need some help organizing this whole thing, but I am very excited about it! See you all there!

I'm wondering if there's a grass area that is big enough for a big BBQ thing or not?
BearHoldingAshark, Balboa Park is basically a 1200 acre park covered in grass. I think we will be okay.
FYI it is also legal to drink there, within a set of guidelines, of course.

Balboa parking sucks and if there are more than 75 people who show up you need to pay for a permit or the park has the right to shut the meet up down.
I always suggest Liberty Station park for large groups cause the parking is better and its always free.
Also more bbq pits than balboa park :P
i like the liberty station idea too. balboa is nice, but you tend to have to fend off the bums and hoards of children's parties. i don't mind setting up early in the day and claiming a spot!
So i gotta activate my account to comment. . . Well this looks exciting. My first thought was to be a sketchy looking dude in a trench coat offering people my "wares" which would be cat pictures. Sadly i got no trench coat.
The Del Mar Fair needs to host Reddit meetup day. That would be epic.

r/SD Facebook Meetup group event fairy here. I just wanted to inform you r/sd folks that the r/sd mod who put together last year's massive global meetup is already putting together the '12 event.
Fittingly, the san diego global meetup event will be on a shoreline, a couple sections of beach have been rented/reserved for Global and the rest of the festivities are being worked out. Thanks for the ideas, but plans are already underway ;-)
