  1. woman lying on the carpet in Gumbel

Have You Seen the Crazy Shit Going Down on Channel 101′s “Gumbel”?

I got really excited for Gumbel a few months ago. It’s a Channel 101 web show about a washed-up soccer player looking for a girlfriend — but it’s turning into a Lynchian-Kaufmanian fantasy. And the Channel 101 audience keeps asking for more.

Dan Harmon, Channel 101 co-founder and Community showrunner, says a good show can switch genres and keep its fans. Gumbel is genre-hopping in ways even Community couldn’t.

  2. So many books, so little time

#CompletedBooks: The Best Jokes From the Twitter Hashtag Game

David Malki !, the annoyingly punctuated creator of the webcomic Wondermark, started a Twitter game a few minutes ago. It’s called #completedbooks and the only rule, I think, is that you add words to the titles of books to make them sound funny.

It’s like a looser version of Booking Bands, the game Coudal Partners invented in 2007 off-Twitter. (That game specifically required matching a band name to a book title.)

It also reminds me of the McSweeney’s piece “Lesser-Known Movie Prequels”.

    Now let’s read some #completedbooks-es.

  3. Garfunkel and Oates sing 29 31

This Is Everything: 29/31 by Garfunkel and Oates

Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome sing about the difference between being 29 and being 31. That sounds a lot cornier than it is.

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever.” — John Keats, describing the moment when Riki joins in.

  4. FEDSMOKEN on Court Day

    FEDSMOKEN: Court Day!

The full title of this video from Slacktory’s favorite vlogger FEDSMOKEN is “Court Day! Every man woman and child in Red Oak are Baby Rapers, and Meth Heads.”

The video is seven seconds long and wins an Oscar for costuming.

  5. Is This Feminist?: Probably the Funniest You Can Be While Mocking Political Correctness

This woman is giving you a thumbs up. IS THIS FEMINIST?

TRIGGER WARNING. The “thumbs up” is the most phallocentric gesture imaginable. You are literally telling someone that a good job is the equivalent of growing a penis. In this case, two penises.

Additionally, this kind of casual congratulation has been known to put the recipient in a good mood, which can lead to entire minutes of complacency about their own privilege. PROBLEMATIC.

    Is This Feminist?

I don’t really want to say that political correctness is a real thing, but a certain sort of language has gotten popular on certain parts of the internet, right? A language of people really ready to be hurt and offended by, say, an HBO sitcom?

And Is This Feminist? doesn’t mock feminism or progressivism, but the faux-feminism and over-sensitivity that end up dicking over the people they’re supposed to protect. It feels like self-mockery, which is the best mockery. AMUSING.

  6. Mimefield

    Mimefield

It’s a mockumentary about mimes, as if they were scattered throughout the French countryside like WW2 landmines. Now that you get the joke, skip to the punchline at 1:32.

12 More Guys Chat With Marla the Psycho OkCupid Lady

Thank you for the universal praise for “20 Guys Trying to Bang a Total Psycho on OkCupid“! We’re proud of every commenter ever for recognizing comedy, irony and hyperbole! Everyone saw clearly how the butt of the joke is Marla herself, because we explained it super-clearly because we’re very professional and perfect. As a reward, here are 12 more conversations with Marla, a crazy person made up for a fake OkCupid account.

Because OkCupid decided this joke was too good to let slowly devolve into a tired gag, they’ve closed Marla’s account. This will be the last-ever collection of Marla’s OkCupid conversations until she makes another account.

  8. Then he turned to the corpses behind him and picked up some more gold, then he picked up some more gold then he picked up some more gold then he picked up some more gold then he picked up a strange-looking hood which he immediately knew that some strange force would prevent him from putting on his head even though it was clearly the right size then he picked up some more gold then he picked up some more gold then he picked up an axe which wasn’t as nice as his own axe then he picked up some more gold then he picked up some more gold then he picked up some trousers and realised that he’d somehow passed the last two decades of his life without ever having worn trousers before so he put them on then he picked up another axe and even though it looked exactly the same as his current axe he just knew demons would die slightly more quickly if he hit them with this new one instead then he picked up some more gold then he picked up a sword and a necklace and some gloves and some more gloves and a double-ended spade and some more gloves.

  10. Amercia Is With Mitt!

How we live now: Everything that happens gets a Tumblr and a Twitter.

Amercia Is With Mitt! is a single-topic Tumblr of images made with, and mocking, the Mitt Romney campaign’s iPhone app. Because that app prominently misspells “America” as “Amercia”. And it still hasn’t been fixed.

Twitter is being funny about it too, natch.

  11. Steve Roggenbuck talks Queen Latifah

This Is Everything: “I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE QUEEN LATIFAH COULD BE”

Another nearly-unseen video from hypervlogger Steve Roggenbuck, whom we introduced yesterday with his motivational video. This time he shouts non sequiturs like “I like my doctors medical, and I like ‘em young.”

Let’s shut down Twitter and all make videos like this instead.

  13. Some actress I don't know

A Detailed Timeline of George Clooney’s Pranks

George Clooney is such a prankster that a celebrity gossip/YouTube carnival blog invented a noun for him. None of us at Slacktory are that clever, so I covered for it with a big-ass infographic with friendly, brightly-colored text.

If any of these can’t be confirmed on Google, then I guess they’re a scoop. MUST CREDIT SLACKTORY, etc.

  14. Teacup Asians

Teacup Asians is a blog of Asian people, mostly girls, coming out of teacups. Like this:

Is this, like, a phrase? If it is, Google hadn’t heard of it.

  15. Obama on a Unicorn Google Images

The Politics of the “Barack Obama and a Unicorn” Meme

Long the staple of Lisa Frank folders and bad fantasy, the unicorn is associated with all we hold close to our hearts: sandy shores, moody waterfalls, misty woodlands and awesome rainbows. But we can’t ignore the newest historic function of the unicorn: Barack Obama’s noble mount-of-choice. When Obama publicly announced his support for gay marriage, it took the internet all of 10 seconds to photoshop him shooting rainbow lasers of love upon his liberal citizens while proudly riding a unicorn through a field that looks like a Windows 7 background.

But Obama’s affiliation with unicorns has been going on since he “fantastically” nailed his nomination for President in 2008. It’s a phenomenon unique to the late aughts and early 21st-teens — Obama is the first President “of” the truly hatched internet generation. But why unicorns? Follow me on a three-part exploration touring Barack Obama’s greatest unicorn hits, in an attempt to get to the bottom of the mythic creature Obama gets atop, and rein in (just a bit) the wily politics of the unicorn.
