  1. Ashli Gay - angry lady on YouTube

I’d like to congratulate these two actresses for their slick duo work. What seems to be the main monologue is in fact a patter set up for the mother’s impeccable timing, as she chimes in like the world’s most depressing hype man.

No real person could accidentally be this funny. These lines were honed for weeks by the Mr. Show writing team, then punched up by Mitchell and Webb. Each of those hiccups was a carefully timed sapphire placed on this jeweled crown.

The bit where the mom pulls up her…

Yes, these women are definitely fake.

Watch what is clearly an elegant troll by a superteam of the world’s top comedians. »

  2. HireKevin Applebee's Restaurant with Kevin Matuszak

Facebook is topping all our news feeds with obnoxious brand posts, while hiding updates from pages we actually liked. Clicking to hide the post leaves me feeling impotent. My colleague Henry likes to leave stupid comments on these promoted posts, punishing the brands for so desperately chasing his likes.

It looks like Kevin Matuszak is doing that, but on a grand scale. He’s begging Applebee’s to hire him, in a Facebook comment thread that’s gotten 182 comments and 265 likes. And whoever runs the Applebee’s Facebook page has been responding every now and then, checking on his progress — and then helping him along. They’re trying to turn it into a publicity stunt. A very silly, stupid, actually-fun publicity stunt.

On Monday, Kevin wrote on the Applebee’s Facebook timeline: “hi, can I work for you?” They replied, “Check if your local Applebee’s is hiring!”

But Kevin said he wanted a job at corporate. And he kept bugging them. With updates like these:

  3. Justin Bieber hate on Google Images
    • Find out what the hell a meme is.
    • Lobby YouTube to change their voting mechanism from“Thumbs up/Thumbs down” to “Doesn’t suck dick/Sucks dick.”
    • Personally mediate a settlement to the divisive Eminem/Insane Clown Posse feud.
    • Have sexual intercourse with a robot. Or even a regular person, I guess…in a nutshell, just have sex.
    • Try meth, but know when to stop.

  4. Wheatus Teenage Dirtbag sucks

My first exposure to Wheatus was in 2007, on the old community-run website flashflashrevolution, a Dance Dance Revolution ripoff that involved tapping the keyboard instead of dancing on a pad.

When the site was still being run as a for-profit venture, it partnered with bands and gave them little widgets to put on their MySpace pages so people could play DDR files (or “stepfiles”) for said band’s song. We had some slightly big names — 5 Finger Death Punch, Disturbed, Reel Big Fish. I would play these widgets for quick fun. One day, I came across a widget for a band that seemed familiar. It was Wheatus.

And I regret that day. Read why Wheatus deserve utter ridicule. »

  5. IDF Twitter Black Friday

Always conscious of public opinion, during the recent war in Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) simultaneously waged a PR offensive across multiple social networks. On Tumblr, Facebook, Pinterest, the IDF has posted sharable photos and slick infographics aimed at justifying their military action. One member of the IDF’s Spokesperson’s Unit has even shared a meme extolling the power of Israel’s vaunted Iron Dome missile defense system.

The IDF’s official Twitter account @IDFSpokesperson has been especially deft at navigating social media. The size of its online influence dwarfs that of Hamas, whose military wing has similarly used Twitter to posture online. In addition to livetweeting Operation Pillar of Cloud from start to finish, @IDFSpokesperson has deployed hashtags, trending topics, favorites, and other site-specific features to make its case. In one instance, the account piggybacked off the hashtag for the new Call of Duty game, trying to garner support from the teens who are a vital ally to the state of Israel:

In another instance, @IDFSpokesperson reached out to James Bond himself, using the #Skyfall hashtag to pitch a listicle about their military gadgets:

But the IDF has gotten very weird on Twitter. »

  6. Condescending Wonka isn't condescending

    My dear friends,

The internet is a marvelous place. How perfectly astounding it is to learn the secrets of the deepest jungles and most obscure Kardashians, all at the touch of a button! However, the “Condescending Wonka” meme has got me all wrong, and I’d like to set the record straight.

My protege, Charlie Bucket, insists that there is no such thing as bad publicity, and the Oompa-Loompas have warned me: “What do you get when you go to the press? / Reporters who question your business success.” But I simply cannot bear the idea that I would condescend to children, when in fact, I hold them to quite rigorous standards.

    Take, for example, the golden-ticket holders… »

  7. Facebook copyright notice hoax - Cyber Monday

It’s really sad to see everyone fall for the Facebook copyright notice hoax. You guys realize that just declaring something on your Facebook status doesn’t make it legally so, right?

  8. Vin Diesel upside down

The joke of Twitter’s #VinDieselSunday isn’t quite that Vin Diesel is dumb… it’s that he sort of sees the world like a child. An alien child. An autistic alien child.

Every Sunday, very funny Twitter users think of ways that Vin Diesel would misinterpret normal things:

The best thing is that there are very few lame ones. Sift through the hashtag search and sure, some aren’t gold, but they’re all at least bronze. Only the pros come out for Vin Diesel Sunday.

  10. Fun Dip header

I one day wondered why all packages of Fun Dip candy say “Lik-M-Aid” on top of it, as if it’s just one of the many Lik-M-Aid brands of products. The true story is boring and sad, so I invented a more interesting one.

1942 - Discussed formation of corporation, responsibilities of board members.

1943 - Discussed introduction of Lik-M-Aid’s initial product line, to be called “Fun Dip”.

1944 - Fun Dip has been a runaway success.

1945 - Fun Dip continues to sell well. Discussion of adding new flavors to the portfolio tabled until next meeting.

1946 - Fun Dip continues to sell well. Cherry and Orange flavors to be rolled out in Q3.

1947 - Fun Dip continues to sell well.

1948 - Fun Dip continues to sell well.

1949 - Lik-M-Aid “Core Values Pyramid” debuts. Most values centered around Fun Dip, promotion thereof.

1950 - “Keeping Fun Dip affordable, yet delicious” added to Core Values Pyramid.

And here’s where things get tricky. »

  13. world war 2 soldiers

Comedian Travis Kurtz sent us this sketch he shot for SyFy’s Viral Video Showdown. It’s about a World War II soldier who gets an awkward mission. It’s CollegeHumor-esque, in a good way.

  14. Windows 8 Mad Libs

Yo momma is the largest city in America. Batman and I don’t understand each other. Guess what I’m wearing shorts lol jk. These are a few of the texts Microsoft thinks you want to send to other human beings.

WPWordFlow is a relatively new Twitter account that explores the predictive text feature on Windows Phone 8. According to the profile, “Every word except the first one is added sequentially using Windows Phone 8’s suggested words bar.”

Some of them make total sense:

With others, you can’t help but sense a bit of the stereotypical Microsoft nerd seep in:

  15. Worst IMDb lists - Howard the Duck

Most IMDb lists are just “movies I need to see” or “my favorite horror flicks”. These are not those lists.
