Woodley's character Tris decides to leave her own group and join the Dauntless faction, which focuses on Bravery. She is trained by Theo James' Four.

Tony Goldwyn plays Andrew, Tris' father, who is a member of the group Abnegation, which focuses on selflessness.

Taking the Test

In the futuristic society, when an individual turns 16, he takes a test that determines which faction he is best suited for, and then must decide whether to stay with the faction of his parents, or leave to join another group and never see his family again.

Divergent

Woodley's Tris is a rare individual because when she took the test, she discovered that she could fit into more than one faction, making her a Divergent, viewed as a risk to society.

After Tris joins Dauntless, she begins to have feelings for her mysterious instructor, Four.

Dauntless

Dauntless focuses on bravery. They wear mainly black, and are tasked with being the protectors and the warriors of the society.

Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz and Ben Lloyd-Hughes pose on set. They play Tris, Christina and Will, respectively, who are all training to become members of Dauntless.
