The Film Society of Lincoln Center has revealed its full slate of films that will screen at the 52nd New York Film Festival, which will run from Sept. 26 to Oct. 12. In addition to the three previously announced marquee attractions — the world premiere of David Fincher's Gone Girl (20th Century Fox) as the opening night film on Sept.

Ricky Gervais is one of the most famous and celebrated comedians in the world — and yet few had ever even heard of him before he turned 40 about 13 years ago.

During the relatively short period since then, he has made up for lost time by becoming one of the most prolific and multi-talented entertainers out there: a hilarious stand-up comedian (with four sold-out world tours), a no-holds-barred awards show host (who can forget the 2010, 2011 and 2012 Golden Globe ceremonies?), a star of films for children (including The Muppets and Night at the Museum franchises) and, above all else, the creator, writer and star of several of the most memorable TV comedies of all-time: BBC Two's The Office (2001-04), a British workplace comedy that spawned an American reincarnation; BBC and HBO's Extras (2005-07), through which he continued his exploration of fame that began with The Office; and Netflix's Derek (2012-), a dramedy about a middle-aged nursing home employee who, in many ways, is rather like Charlie Chaplin's tramp: sweet, simple, awkward but in possession of a heart of gold.

Over the course of my career, I have had the privilege of meeting many of Hollywood's biggest names, but rarely, if ever, have I been as excited as I was on the handful of occasions when I crossed paths with Lauren Bacall, who died today at the age of 89. I know that many others in the business who love classic movies feel the same way.

Why? Because Bacall was a true legend in a world in which that superlative is used often but rarely with justification — in her case, there was no question that it was merited — and she was one of the last and best remaining ties that we had to Hollywood's long-gone Golden Age. Consider the following.

If one had to identify television's "most valuable player" of 2013-2014, one would have good reason to pick Ryan Murphy, the man behind three noteworthy productions: The Normal Heart (HBO), a dramatic TV movie adapted from one of the most socially significant plays of our time; American Horror Story: Coven (FX), the fourth miniseries in a fright-based anthology; and Glee (Fox), a musical theater series.

Everyone knows that Holmby Hills' famed Playboy Mansion hosts Bunnies … but did you know that it also houses bunnies — as well as monkeys, cockatoos, peacocks, African cranes, parrots, toucans, pelicans, doves and all sorts of other animals?

They all reside in the backyard "zoo" area — the Mansion is one of America's few private residences with a zoo license — which Crystal Hefner, Hugh Hefner's stunning 28-year-old wife of 19 months, was gracious enough to show to The Hollywood Reporter last week. The Santa Barbara International Film Festival announced on Wedensday that the ninth annual recipient of its Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film will be actress Jessica Lange.

The honor will be presented to the two-time Oscar winner and two-time Emmy winner — possibly by Douglas himself — on Nov. 16 at a black-tie gala dinner at the Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara.
