What We Learned From J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Update

The Harry Potter series may have officially ended with the 2011 film release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, but it appears that J.K. Rowling isn’t done with the franchise just yet.

Earlier today, the British author has published a short story updating fans about an adult Harry Potter and his friends at the Quidditch World Cup finals.

Written in the voice of Daily Prophet journalist Rita Skeeter, the story is posted on Pottermore, an interactive website where fans can explore the world of Harry Potter.  Here’s what we learned about Harry and his friends, who are now in their mid-30s:

1) Harry Potter is now a famous Auror

Harry is described as  “graying” but still wears his trademark round glasses (total fashion faux pas, but we won’t hold it against him). He also has a cut on his cheek most likely created due to his line of work. As he tells the Daily Prophet,  “We do not comment on the top secret work of the Auror department, as we have told you no less than 514 times, Ms. Skeeter.”

2) Ron works at a joke shop, Hermione continues to succeed

Ron has left his line of work as an Auror to help with his brother’s joke shop. His ginger hair is also “thinning slightly.”

And setting an example of how to be an awesome working mom of two, Hermione is the deputy head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement and “is now tipped to go even higher within the Ministry.”

3) But that’s not all. Other characters in Harry’s life seem to be thriving as well:

– His wife Ginny is now a Quidditch correspondent for the Daily Prophet

-Neville Longbottom continues to be a popular Herbology teacher at Hogwarts (although he seems to have a drinking problem…)

-Percy Weasley is now the head of the Department of Magical Transportation

-Luna Lovegood is still delightfully eccentric  as she is seen wearing robes composed of the flags of all sixteen qualifying countries. She is also the mother of twin boys.

What’s left out however, are the whereabouts of Draco Malfoy. While we’re sure he’s doing just fine and dandy, it would have been nice to see what he’s been up to. Perhaps J.K. Rowling can release another update soon?! Here’s to our wishful thinking!!
