See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

Hey there!

Welcome to Work in Progress! Tumblr’s official ask box, where we try to answer as many questions as we can about Tumblr: what we’re working on, hope to work on, or even your suggestions! We hope it can be a little halfway between staff and you fine folk, the community.

Please note if you’re experiencing an issue/glitch/bug on Tumblr, do not send here at WIP—please file a Support request instead of sending us an ask.

maplerosekisses asked:

If I create a community and am the admin of it, will my filters still work when viewing the community? I have a community idea, but I realized that something a lot of people would want to post in it is something I don't want to see. I don't want to ruin everyone's fun by making it against the community rules, but I would still like to avoid seeing it.

Answer: Hey there, @maplerosekisses!

Your content filters should still work, yes. If they don’t, however, it’s a bug—so please let us know!

Right now, the only thing that doesn’t work the same as everywhere else if you’re a community admin or mod is blocking other users. This means that if you’re an admin or mod, you’ll still see posts and comments inside the community from people you’ve blocked—so you can moderate them. Otherwise, the filter overlays for content and tags should work exactly as you would otherwise expect.

Anything that doesn’t will probably require our attention. So file a bug report or get in touch with Support.

Thanks for your question, and have a good day!

alessandriana asked:

I've set up a community and it has a few members, but the engagement is low. I think part of this is that there's no ability to reblog external posts into the community. Any chance that's on the table?

Answer: Hi, @alessandriana!

Good news for you, here. Not only is it on the table, it’s already launched in the latest version of the Android app if you have it! It’s also coming soon to the iOS app, too. We agree—it’s extremely important. So we hope this comes as welcome news.

Thanks for your question, and keep ’em coming.

fangirlghost-19 asked:

I have a 2 questions if that's ok

One is regarding communities - how long till we find out if they've been approved? cause i made a few and i have no updates on them

Also why can't we send asks from our secondary blogs? is there a plan to change that in the future? is there a reason why we can't already do that?

Answer: Hey, @fangirlghost-19!

One is regarding communities – how long till we find out if they’ve been approved? cause i made a few and i have no updates on them

You will be notified via push notification and an activity item when your community is approved. We are still processing some of them—apologies for the wait!

Also why can’t we send asks from our secondary blogs? is there a plan to change that in the future? is there a reason why we can’t already do that?

The reasons are purely technical, unfortunately. We want to do a lot more with secondary blogs, such as letting them send asks—we just haven’t had the time to do it. We have gotten some things done, like being able to reply as a secondary blog.

The good news is there is more to come, eventually! We have made note of your question and will have updates via the usual channels as soon as there is news to share.

Thanks for getting in touch, and have a lovely day.

indeedjaffa asked:

Will people be able to follow Communities instead of being able to just join as members?

Answer: Hey there @indeedjaffa!

A little answer and then a long answer. The little: Eventually, maybe!

The long: This is something we had some early ideas about, being able to follow a public community like it’s a blog (technically, it actually is a blog under the hood). To start, however, we want to focus on the experience of joining and sharing the space. We think those pieces are much more powerful than simply being able to follow a community, which you could do via a group blog today.

However, it could be an eventuality—so watch this space on this one, and you will know where to find updates should anything change on this. Thanks for your question!

richardmurrayhumblr asked:

Will you implement a private chat for communities? only accessible to members of a community?

Answer: Hi, @richardmurrayhumblr!

This is pretty unlikely right now.

We actually had a group chat feature a few years ago, and it didn’t work out. It doesn’t quite match what we’re trying to accomplish with Communities. It is also something we included in our first survey about what we should build next for Communities—and it didn’t score very highly.

That being said, it may make more sense to revisit this once more of the feature is built out and more people are using it. We want to create more ways to subdivide large communities, and a chat-like piece could eventually make a lot of sense.

Thanks for your question here, and watch this space.

riverwithoutbanks asked:

Hello, my friends and I have been using the community feature and having a lot of fun with it, but there are a couple of things we think would be good to have:

Being able to join with sideblogs (or at least post/comment with them).

Being able to post pictures/gif in the comments.

It would be cool to be able to add custom emojis/stickers to personalise each community experience.

Allow multiple admins or allow mods to add people.

Custom handles.

Ability to mute notifications.

Being able to make multiple channels. There’s already the poll one, the latest one, and the popular one (which currently doesn’t work) and it would be nice if we could make custom ones.

Thank you for your time! I know it’s still in test phase so there might be a lot coming that would make those suggestions redundant and we look forward to seeing it.

Answer: Hi, @riverwithoutbanks!

We have good news for you. Maybe even the very best of news.

Thankfully, literally *all of those things* are on the roadmap! Every last one! So that includes muting notifications, adding admins, and joining with sideblogs—which will probably come sooner than the others. But we want to do all of what you’ve outlined above. Great minds, and all that.

Keep your eyes peeled as and when they arrive. We hope it will all be sooner rather than later, and you’ll be the first to know via the usual channels here at @wip and @changes.

Thanks for your question, and keep ’em coming.

cinna-bunnie asked:

AH ANOTHER ONE, POST LIMITS!!!!!

I don't know why we're still only using 250 posts per day across all blogs. I hit this SO often and it's extremely frustrating. Are there plans to raise this???? Double it to 500?? Make it 250 PER BLOG at least???

Something that isn't just roughly ten posts an hour, which can go by extremely fast when you're trying to support artists and various crowdfunding efforts. There's not even a way to increase post limit with an ad free subscription, this seems like something that doesn't need to stay the way it is and i feel like we should talk about this and figure out a better number.

I get how limits help fight back against spam, but last week i kept hitting post limit early in the day because the counter resets at 9pm for me - so all of my late night posts + everything that piled up in the queue since i was blocked all day before 9pm gives me significantly less room to work with the next day. I am not spam, i am a human being, and doing regular organic activity is getting me driven off the site!!! the way this feels is like do you want us on here or not lol?? why are we being punished for finding it engaging, I do not think 250 is a reasonable limit.

250posts/24hrs is 10.4 posts an hour, and is all you have to work with regardless of how many other side blogs you maintain. There's not even a way to see how many posts you have left for the day, I think post limit needs addressing!!!! or at least some kind of acknowledgement to start!! 250 forever just does not make sense

Answer: Hi there, @cinna-bunnie!

A little tease for y’all, because we just can’t help it—we hear you loud and clear. We are working on this, and we think you should stay tuned.

👀

You’ll know more soon, and we like to think you might like what you see. Have a great day, and keep the questions coming, folks.

So, you stayed tuned. We have news for you, and hope you like what you see.

taikeero-lecoredier asked:

On another note,i know Tumblr servers are expensive to keep up but if there was a donation progress for this site like ao3 it would help relieve the costs a little i think. I hope Tumblr is able to cover servers costs once the situation at hand is resolved.

wip answered:

Answer: Hi, @taikeero-lecoredier!

Good question! And please do excuse us while we make a shameless plug or two.

At present, the best way to support Tumblr is simply by purchasing something from TumblrMart: perhaps a swanky badge, or maybe Ad-Free Browsing is more to your tastes. Every dollar (and other currency) helps! And there’s plenty there for everyone.

And stay tuned to this, too. We will have more avenues for supporting your platform of choice in due course. Watch this space, folks.

sapphicpond asked:

Hi wip,

I have a few questions:

I know that blogpacks are still very experimental, but it would be very nice to get pagination (to allow going back a day or many days), and a multi-column view. Are there any plans to expand blogpacks soon?

Also do you have any updates to share on patio?

Answer: Hi there, @sapphicpond!

An answer for you, short and relatively sweet. We do indeed have plans, and big plans, too. But none in the near term—we are all-in on Communities right now.

As and when we do have news on the aforementioned plans for Collections/BlogPacks and Patio, you can catch it on our @changes blog. So do be sure to follow along there. In the meantime, thank you for your question, and have a great week!

serendipityxing asked:

Hi there! So in private messages my friend tends to send me like 10 posts at once, and right now there is no option to reply to those messages individually. For example in messenger etc if you swipe right (or right click) you can immediately reply to that specific post/message. I was wondering if you guys had any plans on incorporating that or if you'd be willing to. Thanks in advance! 😘

Answer: Hey, @serendipityxing!

Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans on adding that kind of functionality to direct messaging.

But’s it not all bad news—far from it. It sounds like what you’re doing could be much better served by Communities! Sharing posts with friends in a space where you can all comment on them is one of the reasons we’re building it, and we think it would suit you down to the ground. Like a glove, even.

Thanks for getting in touch, and we hope you all enjoy Communities. Give it a whirl sometime.
