Move site with Creator plan to new domain (linked to WordPress site) that I own

  • I need step-by-step instructions for doing this because I want to make sure I don’t mess anything up. So far I have not been able to reach a real person at WordPress. Even when I open a support ticket, the responses I get are all AI-generated. The steps outlined for the process seem contradictory or don’t match the actual options I see in my WP dashboard when I try stepping through them. Can you please help?

  • Hi there – Can you share with me the domain of the current site that’s on the Creator plan? And next, can you share with me the domain that you would like to move this site and Creator plan to? Thanks!

  • The current site is http://www.toweringbrickcreations.com and I would like to move it to http://www.brickbuildershandbook.com but preferably with little to no disruption to any traffic I get on the current site. Thanks!

  • @deancroyal, is this the information you were looking for? Please let me know the next steps. Also, given that I am paying for the Creator plan is there a way I can get live support? All my attempts to reach a real person have led to AI bots … thank you!

    Thank you.

There will be no disruption as both domains are under the same website.

  • Thanks ! I did not realize it was as simple as that. If I decide to give up my original domain eventually, what are the things I need to do minimize SEO impact? Do I need to update all the links on my website to point to the new domain? Do I also need to update anything in Google Search Console to let them know about the domain name change?

When moving your website to a new domain, use the Change of Address tool: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9370220 to inform Google and migrate your search results.

Do I need to update all the links on my website to point to the new domain?

The site links will automatically switch to the primary address when you change the site’s primary address.

Additionally, contact websites linking to your old domain and request them to update the links to the new domain. Also, submit an updated sitemap containing your new URLs to Google Search Console: https://wordpress.com/support/site-verification-services/.

    I hope this helps!
