“There has been a critical error on this website.” I received an email from WordPress saying Jetpack is the problem. I cannot access my control panal. My dashboard doesn’t work. FTP doesn’t work. There is nothing I can do to correct the problem. You need to fix this. My website is http://www.rononeal.com.

The email you received from WordPress should have listed the full error message. Please post the full error message so we can look into it for you.

If you’re not able to find that email, I’d recommend checking the PHP error logs in your web hosting account. If you’re not sure how to access those logs, your web host can help you.

WordPress has a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Jetpack.

First, visit your website (https://www.rononeal.com) and check for any visible issues. Next, visit the page where the error was caught (https://www.rononeal.com/wp-cron.php?doing_wp_ cron=1687943904.30149507522 and check for visible issues.

Website appears to be ok when accessing it. Dashboard of course doesn’t work. When accessing the link for the page where the error was caught I got the following error message: Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you may have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Again, I cannot access dashboard items, my control panel, FTP. Some time before this I upgraded PHP to 7.4

    Hey @ronbob,

Apologies for the delay here – we’re still working through a support backlog.

Again, I cannot access dashboard items, my control panel, FTP. Some time before this I upgraded PHP to 7.4

You should have access to a feature called the File Manager in your hosting account. This will allow you to log into your site’s file structure without needing to do so via FTP access. If the WordPress error email cited Jetpack as the problem, you can delete the entire Jetpack directory in your File Manager. You’ll find it in the Plugins directory. Once you’ve done that, you should be able to log into your WP Admin.

Can you tell us anything else about what you were doing on the site when the critical error email happened? Was Jetpack particularly far behind on version updates? Or do you have any other plugins (or your theme) that was behind on updates?

You should be able to safely re-install the most recent version of Jetpack from the Plugins page in your WP Admin once you’re able to get back in.

Let us know how it goes.

I do not have access to anything. I can’t get into my internet provider account, I can’t use my dashboard, and I can’t use my FTP. Literally any way to access the site does not work. I can’t delete and reinstall Jetpack. I can’t deactivate it either. There is absolutely no way I have found to gain access.

I keep my plugins fairly current. So Jetpack was probably the latest version. The site told me my PHP was behind, so I updated from 7.2 to 7.4. It was sometime after this update that the failure occured. Didn’t seem to be a direct result of upgrade.

I wasn’t doing anything, I just got an email saying Jetpack caused a failure. I wasn’t even using my computer. It seemed to happen sometime during the night.

I’m at a total loss. The website works but I can’t do anything to update it. Any help is much appreciated.

    Thank you , Ron

Can some one please help me with this. Right now I don’t have a real good feeling about the Jetpack plugin.

@ronbob – we don’t have access to the backend of your website, only your hosting provider would have this, and they would be the ones to assist you with getting FTP access to your site and into your hosting control panel. It looks like your site is hosted with iPage, I would recommend reaching out to them here:
