• We used to have all the dropdown menu working.
One day it just not working anymore and I try to find out why?

When I log in to our WordPress account,
I can see at Appearance -> Menus,
I still can see all the original settings.

Did I need some kind the Plugin or did need to update anything?
Now our elementor is on version 3.6.0.

Could anyone help me out with this I truly appreciate it.

  • There could be several reasons why your dropdown menus are not working anymore. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check for Plugin Conflicts: Sometimes, plugins can conflict with each other or with your theme, causing certain features to stop working. To check if this is the issue, you can deactivate all your plugins except Elementor and see if the dropdown menus start working again. If they do, reactivate your plugins one by one until you find the one causing the conflict.
    2. Check for Theme Conflicts: If deactivating plugins doesn’t solve the issue, the problem might be with your theme. To check this, switch to a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty or Twenty Twenty-One and see if the dropdown menus work. If they do, the issue is with your theme.
    3. Update Your Plugins and Themes: If your plugins, theme, or WordPress itself are out of date, they might cause issues with your site. Make sure everything is up to date.
    4. Clear Your Cache: Sometimes, your browser or a caching plugin might serve an old version of your site. Try clearing your browser cache and, if you’re using a caching plugin, clear your site cache as well.
    5. Check JavaScript Errors: If there’s a JavaScript error on your site, it might prevent the dropdown menus from working. You can check for JavaScript errors by opening your browser’s developer tools (usually by pressing F12) and looking at the console.

If none of these steps solve the issue, you might need to contact Elementor’s support to help you troubleshoot the issue.

Your menu is controlled by your theme. And that causes a JavaScript error, which makes the dropdown menu not work. This is described here including a possible solution: https://wpboys.com/how-to-fix-browser-undefined-error-in-wordpress/

    BUT!!!
I guess you are using this commercial theme: https://themeforest.net/item/catalyst-wordpress-portfolio-theme/246080 – but it has not been updated since 2015. So I would advise you to change the theme, as it seems to be incompatible with the scripts currently provided by WordPress (especially the newer jQuery).

Also your WordPress seems to be not up to date. It is also very old with 5.6.10.

    Hi Threadi,

    You are awesome!
I will let my team know about this.

    I’m not familiar with WordPress.
Look like I will need to do more research.

We do need to update our website for sure.
We kind of worry if we update to the newest version it may cause more problems?!

Thank you for all the imported suggestions.
    I appreciate it.

    Thank you,
    Vic

Your worry is quite justified. An update of WordPress could break much more. It would make sense to test such an update in a non-public staging system. If you have a team that helps you, there will certainly be someone who can test it for you. And make backups – backups are always important. Your project needs more support or you won’t be able to use it in the future. The menu is only the beginning of the problems that could still come if you no longer take care of your WordPress installation.
