Recently found a plugin conflict between Jetpack and Flickr – a bit surprised that it’s not mentioned elsewhere given how popular both are, but I don’t think it’s specific to my own setup.
Anyway, a possible bug report then (Flickr are already aware): if Jetpack’s ‘Enable site accelerator’ is ON and ‘image load times’ is ON, any embedded Flickr images will appear as simple inline jpgs rather than linked Flickr elements with image information etc on hover.
Maybe not a big deal, but what this means if if there’s an embedded gallery, this will also show as the first image in the sequence, rather than a slideshow as it should, which is more of an issue.
(Turn off ‘image load’ times and it works ok.)

    Hi @smchugh ,

How are you adding your Flickr links? There’s no conflict I’m aware of.

    I have these settings:

If you use the Flickr block, it should ‘just work’.

Add the block, then paste your Flickr URL:

It should show up in both your post edit screen and on the front-end:

Have you tested for a plugin or theme conflict?

    How to test for conflicts

The best way to determine if the issue is being caused by a theme and/or plugin is to:

    1. Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront or Twenty Twenty-Three theme.
    2. Try to reproduce the problem: If the problem is resolved, it’s a theme conflict. If not, continue to the next steps.
    3. Temporarily deactivate all plugins except Jetpack with Site Accelerator and ‘speed up load times’ enabled. You can do this manually or use a plugin to help (see below for tools).
    4. Try to reproduce the problem again. If the problem is resolved, it’s a plugin conflict. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, continue to the next step.
    5. Reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each, until you find the one causing conflict.

Hi Cena – ah, I see, I’m not using the block editor. If your setup is working ok it must be that the block somehow allows the images to work, or the block comes from a Jetpack widget (?), so I would expect the two to have been tested together. (it’s not really an option for me, partly because I have many old posts with embedded slideshows which won’t work any more and which I don’t have time to rewrite with each image/slideshow in a block). As I probably said, I am simply using the embed code from the image or photo set, pasted inline.

By the way, I did a quick test, switching to the 2023 theme and turning acceleration on (I already disabled all plugins and isolated the Jetpack plugin with image setting as the common factor). Same results, so I can be confident the conflict is between Jetpack’s image setting and the ‘raw’ Flickr embed.

    Thanks
