Can anyone explain why the Jetpack gallery slider is not a core part of WP. Is there an advantage to gallery sliders being a plugin or is it just to keep the core simple?

    Hi there,

Jetpack’s carousel feature isn’t a core part of WordPress for a couple of reasons. Primarily, keeping such features as plugins allows for a lighter and more streamlined core structure. WordPress aims for simplicity and flexibility in its core to ensure it remains fast and efficient for users who may not need every available feature. By offering additional features like the Jetpack carousel as plugins, it provides users the option to add only the functionalities they need, hence keeping core WordPress as lightweight as possible.

Moreover, having the carousel as part of Jetpack allows for dedicated development and support for that feature outside the WordPress release cycle. This way, and improvements and updates to the carousel can be pushed out faster without having to wait for the next core WordPress update.

This plugin-based approach offers customizability and choice to website owners, allowing them to personalize their site with the tools that best fit their needs without overburdening the core software.

    Hope that answers your question!
