    Hi folks!

I’ve been helping a friend out with their blog. Things have been going swimmingly, but it seems that email notifications for new posts stopped sometime after December 5th 2023 (about 33 posts ago).

The Jetpack connection reports that it’s fine. I just subscribed to the posts and got a confirmation, clicked through, and saw posts from today and yesterday and previous days (after December 5th), implying that Jetpack is aware on *some* level of the new posts 🙂

However, multiple people have reported not getting emails starting December 5th. Some folks reported that they’ve gotten some post notifications since then, but everything seems much more spotty. Before this, I think there were hundreds of new post notifications sent out just fine.

The blog is on WordPress 6.4.2 and Jetpack 12.9.3.

    I doublechecked that

    • Let visitors subscribe to new posts and comments via email
    • Enable the “subscribe to site” option on your comment form
    • Enable the “subscribe to comments” option on your comment form

    settings are all checked.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks folks!

We made a regular post and the regular post’s email notifications seemed to go out just fine. Many of the posts are scheduled posts, and that may be the distinction between which ones are being sent and which ones aren’t, maybe?

    Hi @adamwolf

Could you please post your site URL here so that we can have a look?

If you want it to remain private, you can also contact us via this contact form:

If you choose to reach out directly, please include a link to this thread.

Also, if you can share an example post where people received emails and one where they didn’t, that would help us to investigate the issue.

    Thanks!

    Sure! Thanks!

    https://breathesbooks.com/2023/12/19/review-mirror-lake/ didn’t send, and https://breathesbooks.com/2023/12/20/review-unwell-women/ did.

After that last post, they’ve switched to publishing them manually, rather than scheduled, and I think they’ve all sent. It would still be good to get this fixed as scheduled posts are more convenient! 🙂

They set up a test scheduled post going out tomorrow at 16:15 GMT, which will be at this URL: https://breathesbooks.com/2024/01/16/review-encyclopaedia-eorzea-volume-ii/

    Hi there

Our logs show that emails have been sent out for at least your latest five posts, have those posts been scheduled or published manually?

It does seem like the scheduled post you mentioned from Jan 16th may not have been sent out, so there could be an issue with your scheduled posts.

Unfortunately that post has now expired from our logs. Would you be able to do another test with a scheduled post and if the email doesn’t get sent, reply here with the post URL so we can investigate further?

    Thanks

    Hello @adamwolf,

Do you have updates about that? We usually close inactive threads after one week of no activity, but we want to make sure we’re all set before marking it as solved. Thanks!

    Thread Starter adamwolf

    (@adamwolf)

I’ll have to have the user set up a post that isn’t scheduled, and we’ll see!

    Thread Starter adamwolf

    (@adamwolf)

Alright, manual non-scheduled post was https://breathesbooks.com/2024/02/07/placeholder-post/, which did not go out.

A recent manual post was https://breathesbooks.com/2024/02/07/www-wednesday-193/, which did go out.

They’re saying that it still seems that manual posts get email notifications, and scheduled posts do not.

I’d love to get this fixed! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help troubleshoot!

    Hi there, @adamwolf,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Do you still have this problem with scheduled posts?

To make sure we’re on the same page, the posts scheduled that did not send email notifications for you, were posts newly created and instead of directly publishing, scheduled for a later date, or they were posts previously created, updated and rescheduled?

    Thread Starter adamwolf

    (@adamwolf)

Posts that are newly created and instead of directly publishing, scheduled for a later date are no longer sending email notifications when they are published. They used to, but suddenly stopped a few months ago.

    Hi @adamwolf,

I checked our internal documentation as well as previous forum threads if users with your same issue in the past, and we haven’t yet ruled out any potential plugin conflict in your case.

Can you please temporarily deactivate all your plugins and check if the problem gets fixed that way? If it works, then reactivate each plugin one by one to find out which one is causing problems. Every time you activate a plugin, you should publish a scheduled post, which might be a bit tricky and not good for your readers.

Would you be okay in trying that on a staging site, or just the next time you have a scheduled content ready to go?

    Thread Starter adamwolf

    (@adamwolf)

I can set up a staging site and do this. It may take a bit. While I do that, can you confirm that Jetpack is getting “poked” when the scheduled posts go live? Could you do that before the logs rotate out again?

I don’t see anything in our debugger tool that indicates the contrary, that is also what puzzles me when you said that email notifications don’t get sent out.

To stay on the safe side, please make sure that the timezone in the site’s General Settings matches your timezone, as sometime unalignments might create issues and hiccups with the notifications.

That said, while you test that out in your staging site, the only workaround I can suggest you to ensure your readers get email notifications is to not schedule post, but publish posts on the spot, if you will.

I understand that’s not the best option, and I hope that’s only temporary until we figure out what’s conflicting with the scheduled posts.
