• I appreciate Jetpack, but I am tired of having you all push AI on me. I am a creative writer. I have a writing blog. I don’t need help with writing. I hate generative AI, which steals from creators. Is there a way to opt out of AI messages?

    Hi @bryndonovan

    Mike from Jetpack here, I understand.

    The way Jetpack is approaching AI is to be your assistant, help you (if you ever get stuck for ideas, give feedback, and even help with proofreading) and not just churn out AI written content as that’s, like you say, going against what creators are good at.

    We’re covering AI more than usual this month based on a lot of questions that came up on our product update blog post, and I’m doing the webinar this week about AI. In future we’ll be covering Jetpack Social, then Jetpack Newsletter and more from the suite of Jetpack plugins.

    Is there a way to opt out of AI messages?

    You can unsubscribe from the emails, but the content we’ll be covering will vary in future and also include the general feature updates that we’ve been sending out so you’d miss out on those if you did unsubscribe. AI updates have been featured in the last two as we’ve released two new features there to help the creative process like image generation and title suggestions but we do cover everything that’s happening in the world of Jetpack so I’d personally love it if you chose to stay subscribed and continued to read and input on what I write.

    Finally, is the 3 star rating because AI is included in Jetpack, or just the unfortunate focus on AI this month? If the former, I’ve fed back to the team that people would love options to turn off AI in the product.

    If the latter, I’d love it if you’d reconsider the rating since we are covering a wide range of topics both on the blog and over on YouTube too and AI has just had a bit heavier coverage recently.

    Why can’t the AI feature be disabled altogether? Numerous other Jetpack features can be turned on and off at will, but now the AI stuff is mandatory, with clutter appearing in a variety of places, such as the post-level options on the post editor screen. (It’s not enough that the Jetpack sidebar already has all of the settings?)

    It seems like a dark pattern — Jetpack is virtually quintessential for all of the great features it has, but over time, more and more is included only as an upsell. It makes the AI stuff in the post editing options not just needless clutter… but an advertisement as well.

    Hi @brazenlygeek

    You can disable the Jetpack AI Assistant by following the steps on this page:

    https://jetpack.com/support/create-better-content-with-jetpack-ai/#how-to-disable-jetpack-ai-assistant

    And if you don’t want to see internal Ad banners, you can disable those by adding this line to a functionality plugin as shown here.

    add_filter( 'jetpack_just_in_time_msgs', '__return_false', 99 );
