So I have successfully created 3 lessons so far. This has been a headache already.

The main problems I keep facing…

The editor sometimes goes into auto-save (If I hit save it will start auto-saving every few minutes). Ironically, anything I change after this point is not saved. I basically have to go in, make some changes and save/update before this process starts happening. This makes the process much slower.

Sometimes when I create a lesson and add a quiz and some questions, even though my questions are new and different, when I reload the page the questions turn into other ones from my other lessons. In particular this seems to happen if I duplicate a lesson, delete the quiz, add a new quiz and then add new questions. If I duplicate the lesson and edit the questions that are there it does the same.

Any ideas? I’m beginning to think I should just give up at this point.

Yes it is the latest version 4.6.4. All of my plugins and theme are all updated to the latest versions.

    Hi there,

Just to confirm, are you using the block editor or classic editor?

When you duplicate a lesson, the questions are linked to the original lesson/quiz (if you’re using the block editor, you’ll see a “Shared Question” flag when clicking into the question). That means if you edit it in one quiz, it will edit it in the other quiz. Deleting the quiz block and then re-adding it doesn’t delete the quiz. When you add it back, it restores the original quiz. The best way to handle it is to either:
    A) Don’t duplicate the lesson, just copy and paste the content you want to reuse.
    B) Delete each question from the duplicated quiz and start fresh (don’t delete the quiz block itself).

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Jake M.

Thanks.. so it’s the block editor.

So, in respect of that problem I discovered the reusable blocks so instead of duplicating I start a new lesson and add in the blocks I want in order to keep my lessons looking consistent. This way I start fresh with the quizzes.

That said, I still don’t know how to avoid this autosave loop altogether. My workaround at the moment is that I save the page when I feel I’ve made enough progress. Then I reload the page. If I don’t do this, when I click save draft or update, the page will start saving every 30 seconds or so, except that won’t actually save anything new.

Sorry for the frustrated tone of my previous message… I’m grateful for the plugin but I lost several hours of work because of this.

    Hi @awalls86 ,

    > when I click save draft or update, the page will start saving every 30 seconds or so, except that won’t actually save anything new.

It seems this is likely a Gutenberg (block editor) issue, rather than Sensei specifically. I dug around a bit, and there have been a number of issues around this, most recently:

    https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/27263

Based on [this issue](https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/13413), other plugins can also affect the ability of the block editor to save, so it may be worthwhile to attempt to test this.

If you can install plugins, install “Health Check & Troubleshooting”: https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/

On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Then, test whether the ‘autosave loop’ might be caused by a conflict with one of your current plugins or your theme.

Make sure Sensei LMS (and any extensions) is enabled. Then try testing again to see if the issue persists. If that resolves your issue, you can find what was causing it by enabling each plugin one by one while continuing to test.

If that doesn’t help, you can also try switching to a default theme like Storefront or TwentyTwentyTwo via Appearance > Themes, and test again. If the issue is resolved then you know it’s a problem with the theme, and you’ll need to contact the theme author for further assistance.

We’d love to hear if that reveals anything! It might also be fruitful to post directly to the Gutenberg repository issues, or in the WordPress forums:
