Looks like this plugin has been purchased by another company and they are now seriously pushing a pro version with adverts all over the show along with an “anti-spam news” dashboard widget that cannot be disabled.

    not good…

looks like i will be looking for an alternative

  • Ditto. New bugs, too. 🙁 Used to be so simple, so good.

Was coming here to comment on the same thing. What’s with all the advertising this plugin is pushing in my admin dashboard? I’m finding an alternative. This is uncalled for!

Same thing. I’ve used this plugin for a long time and it was outstanding. Then, suddenly, today it was as if it wasn’t even there. Too bad.

Yeah, I went back to the previous version (had a backup). It never had any need to check against some online database. Basically duplicating what Akismet would do.

Also looks like with this new version, you have to buy the pro version just to see how many have been blocked.

The original plugin by the previous owner (webvitali) is available on GitHub. This used to be my favorite plugin, but now I’ll be looking for an alternative, as well.

Also looks like they’re trying to drown out the bad reviews with fake 5-star reviews.

Not another plugin taken over and destroyed!!!

Previous plugin was released under GPLv3 license, so what about pushing fork of old version into plugin repository?

    Hi everyone,

The plugin really has premium version ads. You can disable it in the following way, go to Screen Options and uncheck Anti-spam news.

The functions of the plugin remain the same, it does not violate the GDPR and you can use it as before.

We don’t public the fake reviews, if you can prove it, please provide evidence.

If you do not like the new version of the plugin, you can download the previous version here: https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/anti-spam.5.5.zip

We have corrected the description of the plugin so as not to mislead you.
