Prime Video has closed the Abbotts’ void for good: Outer Range has officially been cancelled, TVLine has confirmed. (Our sister site Deadline first reported the news.)
Outer Range followed Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family when he discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness. In Season 2, son Perry wound up in a completely different timeline, while Royal and his wife Cecilia searched high and low for their missing granddaughter Amy.
The ensemble cast included Imogen Poots (Roadies), Lili Taylor (Perry Mason), Tamara Podemski (Reservation Dogs), Lewis Pullman (Catch-22), Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek), Shaun Sipos (Krypton), Isabel Arraiza (The Oath), Olive Abercrombie (The Haunting of Hill House) and Will Patton (Yellowstone).

Simply Gutted
I liked the show and I hate that we don’t get an ending. Sometimes I wonder if it’s worth starting a series.
You cared about the characters and wanted to see what happens next to them. It was a new and fresh story. Tired of the same mindless TV. Sorry to see it go.
First season was marginally good. Second season, abysmal. Couldn’t get past the second episode.
I agree. Was really hard to follow, so no loss for me.
Thought it was quite easy to follow, the different eras were very distinct.
It’s a mystery show, the viewer shouldn’t need, or want to be spoonfed the story
Nothing against anyone that couldn’t follow along but I thought it was easy to know what timeline we were in and what was going on. I love shows that require a little thought process though. This reminded me a little bit of the show Dark, which I watched years ago and still think about. Would recommend if you enjoyed Outer Range
Why do they always cancel the good ones?
I wished they allowed them to have a final 3rd Season to wrap things up in the most satisfying manner. At least as a courtesy. We still don’t know what are exactly the metrics they use here to decide a show starring Josh Brolin is worthy of cancelling.
Noooooo. Too many good shows have gotten cancelled lately.
This is terrible news.
Haven’t gotten around to watching the new season yet, so does it have a somewhat satisfying ending or is a cliffhanger?
It didn’t even attempt to end the story.
No cliffhanger. Storyline seemed to show that time for them was cyclical. People just keep going through the hole and wind up somewhere else at a different time.
Not at all surprised – there was ZERO buzz on this show. But, as someone who watched S1 right before S2, I DEFINITELY hoped for a third wrap-up season. I want to know the mystery!
Maybe just one movie-length finale? Did not care for the solo adventures of most of the characters in S2 – the Perry show, the Joy show, the Rhett show – so just finishing the main plot would be appreciated with everyone back together and answering questions. Or everyone falls into the hole – that would be fun.
All these channels are shooting themselves in the foot by continually canceling shows without an end. I am watching less shows all across different channels/services because I am sick of getting burned.
Well that sucks,
Streaming… Where everything is gone after 2 seasons!
I’m good with it.
I loved that show!
Too long between seasons, too many riddles, too few (none) answers, a lot of over-acting. I had already decided to skip any future seasons.
Really disappointed. Another show cut short that was one of my favorites. Getting tired of investing money and time into a show that doesn’t last to a conclusion. Another reason for me to keep closing these types of accounts. It’s sad that the good out- of the-box types of shows just aren’t making it. Mindhunter, The OA, and now this one. Think I’ll cancel this account and start reading more books where the status does end and doesn’t get cancelled have way through.
The first season was watchable if a little bit insane…
We havent gotten around to second season yet because i just cant bear more of the confusion/lack of answers.
Is second season even worth bothering with? Do you get any answers?
I have that same question. Only watched season 1.
That’s too bad. I enjoyed following along with the history of this family and was looking forward for more but at least it didn’t end with a cliffhanger. Time is cyclical. Not sure if another season was needed?
WTH.. Seriously?
I actually loved the show, I had finally found a sci-fi time travel show that I liked, and prime had to go and cancel it. Not fair
UNconscionable!! GUTTED! It was such a great mystery show! So much more to unpack, they could not have run out of story!! who made this stupid decision?! if they did not have the audience, it was because they never advertised the show! Losers.
That’s a shame! I loved that show and I really wanted to see it to the end!
Such a shame. Fascinating show.
On one hand, the switch from a weekly release to a full drop in one day was a bad sign that allowed me to mentally prepare for this. On the other hand, it seemed to have stayed in the top 10 pretty consistently and I believe the ratings were solid according to Nielsen’s streaming chart so it’s still semi surprising. Hope the show runner spills what would’ve happened because I’m very curious!
They should pay us back for doing This…
That’s sad news. I just finished season 2 last week and was looking forward to 3. The show spent too much time in it’s weirdness and not enough time in actually telling the story. Was nice to see some indigenous actors like Tamara Podemski (half-indigenous) get some good meaty roles.
“The show spent too much time in it’s weirdness and not enough time in actually telling the story.”
^^ is an excellent summation of the issue with this show. Like, nothing happened in S2! Some characters were magically cured, some characters died… and that’s it?
Here we go again! Too many shows are cancelled without giving us an ending. Thought the show was really good. It was certainly different. Really too bad, would’ve liked a season 3.
