A driver was killed and four passengers remain in the hospital after a car crash in Fillmore Township, according to the Allegan County Sheriff's Office.

The crash happened at the intersection of 136th Avenue and 58th Street, a two-way stop in which 58th Street has the right of way, at about 1:02 p.m. Sunday.

Per an investigation, a sedan traveling west along 136th Avenue did not stop at the stop sign at 58th Street and collided with an oncoming pickup truck, deputies said.

There were five passengers inside the sedan, including three children.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other four passengers were taken to the hospital with serious and life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.

As of Monday, it is unknown if any additional factors played a role in the crash, deputies said.

136th Avenue at 58th Street was closed for a time, but has since reopened.
