From world-famous music festivals like the Coachella Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach to festivals celebrating dates, tamales and Southwestern art, it’s no wonder Indio is known as the “City of Festivals.” With celebrations year-round, there’s always something to do in Indio.
See & Do
Music aficionados from around the world flock to Indio in the spring to attend the Coachella Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Country Music Festival. These massive outdoor events take over the Empire Polo Club for several weekends and have featured headlining acts like Madonna, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Keith Urban. Indio’s other popular festivals include the Southwest Arts Festival in January, the Riverside County Fair and Date Festival in February and the Indio International Tamale Festival in December.
Eat
If you're looking for authentic Mexican food in the desert, Indio has plenty of choices to satisfy your craving. One of the most popular Mexican restaurants is El Mexicali Cafe, a low-key diner serving an extensive menu of authentic Mexican food. Combined with friendly service and reasonable prices, El Mexicali Cafe is one of the desert's best bets for Mexican food.
Party
Locals, karaoke fans and even Stagecoach headliners like Keith Urban know that the best karaoke joint in Indio is Neil's Lounge. This Western-themed watering hole draws a large crowd every night for its karaoke competitions, $5 food menu and stiff drinks. Neil's also has its own designated driver van that will take you back to your hotel if you've partied a little too hard.
