Welcome to the Funk Zone, Santa Barbara's growing arts community that's also home to the Urban Wine Trail, tasty eats and small retailers. Bordered by State Street, Stearns Wharf and East Beach, the Funk Zone comprises about 10 very walkable blocks adjacent to the train station, ocean and downtown Santa Barbara.
See & Do
Curious about Santa Barbara County wines? Head to the Funk Zone to travel the Santa Barbara Urban Wine Trail, a walkable assortment of some of the area's best tasting rooms. From smooth Chardonnays and finicky Pinot Noirs to robust blends, you're sure to fall in love with a bottle or two. Voila, instant souvenirs!
Eat
The Funk Zone used to have a great sandwich shop, and that was about it. Now, it still has that same sandwich shop, but there's so much more. This is the neighborhood to visit when you're hungry. From tacos to fine dining, this neighborhood has what you need to satisfy your appetite. Get gourmet at The Lark or go casual at The Nook.
Party
Keep an eye out for gallery openings, studio tours and winemaker dinners, the Funk Zone is home to some of the most creative (and friendliest) nightlife in Santa Barbara. Even if you haven't heard of anything special happening, a stroll through the neighborhood is bound to turn up something. Municipal Winemakers hosts weekly special events, from movie nights to how-to classes.
Stay
Because the Funk Zone is sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and downtown Santa Barbara, your hotel options are many and varied. Hotel Indigo Santa Barbara is located in the Funk Zone proper, directly across the street from multiple popular wineries and only a few blocks from the beach. The modern decor and satellite arts gallery makes this a good choice for stylish travelers.
Shop
A visit to the Funk Zone is sure to turn up any number of local treasures. Be it a bottle of wine from one of the tasting rooms, a vintage gem from The Blue Door or designer goods from The Shopkeepers, you'll find a unique Santa Barbara souvenir in this area.
