The Costa Rica Guesthouse is quite a bargain just outside the center of the city of San Jose, within walking distance to the Museo Nacional. A tour desk and a car rental desk come in handy for getting around and booking excursions. Kept immaculately clean, the rooms are basic but come with the necessary ammenities- just make sure to reserve a room with a private bath unless you don't mind sharing. The hotel is an old-fashioned Costa Rican residence that has been modernized but maintains a classic feel and the communal living spaces are convenient for relaxing and meeting fellow travelers.
