China Tang recently arrived in the MGM Grand's shopping and dining area, The District. The restaurant's upscale version of Chinese fare is served in an eye-catching decor inspired by 1930s Shanghai. You'll find expected favorites like crispy spring rolls and steamed dumplings, but the menu has some unusual dishes, like The Hammer Chicken, a chicken stuffed with mushrooms, pork belly, ginger, shallot and garlic which is wrapped in a dried lotus leaf and clay, then baked for five hours. When it arrives table-side, it's doused with wine and lit on fire before the server cracks it open with a hammer to release the juicy chicken inside. Other dishes not requiring a hammer include live seafood options (lobster and fish), fried rice with Wagyu, stewed Angus beef short rib and Kung Pao shrimp. Expect to see prices commensurate with a fine dining experience, not casual Asian take out.
