If there's one neighborhood that's done a 180 degree turn over the past few years, it's the Raval. What was used to be known as Barcelona's seediest area is now one of the trendiest and coolest places to frequent. Delicious restaurants line the central walkway, Rambla de Raval with chic new hotels, classy bars and late night clubs springing up on every corner. If you're looking for a taste of the 'real' Barcelona, then the Raval is definitely worth a visit.
See & Do
This lively walkway features a string of out door patios, ideal for sipping white wine and cava sangria on a warm summer's day. The Rambla del Raval is the neighborhood's central walkway and is lined with cocktail bars, local restaurants, clubs and a host of shawarma locales perfect for late night, after hours dining.
Eat
Serving what is known as the best pizza in the city, La Veronica has been around for ages and is a Barcelona and more importantly Raval staple. This small, unassuming restaurant is great for small parties, intimate dinners and particularly good for those who love Italian style pizza.
Party
One of the neighborhoods newest bars turn club, after 1am, Ambar is growing increasingly popular amongst the hipsters/moderno crowd. They serve an eclectic mix of cocktails and have a small but tasty menu if you're looking for a little 'pica pica' (small snacks).
Stay
The icing on the cake, that turned the Raval neighborhood from what it was into what it is on the path to becoming, is the new and trendy Hotel Barcelo. The cyclical, tall structure that sits at the end of Rambla de Raval, is impossible to miss as it's one of the first things you see as you enter the neighborhood. The hotel's known for it's amazing 360 Degree rooftop terrace which offers gorgeous views of the entire city.
Shop
Some of the best shopping to be done is on the tiny side streets that weave their way in and out of the Raval. If you're looking for used furniture, vintage, antique or just with a touch of character, then stroll through the narrow alleyways and backstreets and you'll be sure to find plenty of one of a kind shops featuring a variety of eclectic pieces for the house or as gifts to bring back home.
