Monday, Elon Musk tweeted a thing about Apple’s marketing event, an act that took Musk three seconds but then led to a large portion of the dwindling number of employed human tech journalists to spring into action and collectively spend many hours writing blogs about What This Thing That Probably Won’t Happen All Means.

In the 18 hours since Musk has dashed out a few errant thoughts about possibly banning Apple devices at his companies, Google News has indexed roughly 100 different articles about the tweets, most of which say almost the exact same thing.

There are people hitting the news: “Elon Musk threatens to ban iPhones and Macs at his companies,” “Elon Musk threatens to ban Apple devices from his companies over OpenAI partnership,” “Elon Musk is ranting about Apple and OpenAI on X,” “Elon Musk Just Canceled iPhones,” “Elon Musk warns he will BAN Apple devices from his firms after new AI deal to integrate ChatGPT into iPhones and iPads - calling it a ‘security violation,’” and many variations of this.

There are people taking the finance angle: “Apple Stock Down As OpenAI Deal Prompts Elon Musk to Ban iPhones,” (it is actually up, by a lot, and was only down briefly in after-market trading) and “Elon Musk’s Stunning AI Warning Triggers SHIB, XRP Armies’ Hot Discussion.”

There are explainers: “The Elon Musk and Apple AI drama explained.” There are takes: “Elon Musk’s Angry Reaction to Apple’s Partnership with OpenAI Reveals Why It’s a Stroke of Genius.” There are blogs about the Community Notes backlash: “X Fact Checks Elon Musk After He Blasts Apple-OpenAI Partnership As ‘Creepy’ Privacy Nightmare.” There is the local angle: “Elon Musk has shared this meme from a Tamil movie to trash iPhone-ChatGPT deal,” from Times of India and “Elon Musk uses iconic Indian meme to take a dig at Apple-OpenAI deal” from Hindustan Times and “Elon Musk Shares This Indian Meme Amid Apple-OpenAI Deal” from NDTV.
