Not much to add to disc audio and video quality, as always it’s superb in every way. However the movie story is tough to classify, less a mystery thriller, more a portrayal of the French justice system which works quite differently to ours. I thought it was excellent others may differ.

I purchased this a little way back when it first came was available and was very anxious to get because its been rated as one of the best movies of 2023 and highly recommended by several reviews and its got several Oscar nods which means I have to see it. Well, I finally sat down to watch this DVD movie and nothing the disc is unplayable I immediately ordered a new copy and hopefully fingers crossed it plays in US DVD players will see.

This is a terrific "courtroom" drama, with great acting. A wife and mother comes under suspicion of murder in the death of her husband, and her partially blind 11-year-old son comes under questioning. The unfolding of the film was so engrossing, I became completely absorbed in it. Excellent. Must mention that the reviewer who is saying the director was geared politically by the Heard situation and intentionally drawing on it is WRONG. The director was in the process of filming the trial when she became familiar with the Heard/Depp trial. The script was already written with her co-author. She did not use that trial or intend to comment on it with this movie. I wish amazon would vet these reviews better or allow comments again. Anatomy of a Fall is not political propaganda.

The film “Anatomy of a Fall” is not based on a true story or any real individuals, including Amber Heard. The director, Justine Triet, along with co-writer Arthur Harari, crafted the screenplay inspired by general issues in relationships and dynamics within a marriage. The other review that mentions Amber's name is 100% making it up and it is sad that this is how the internet works these days.

After I read the plot of this film on Wiki and downloaded it for free (I need to preview films before I spend money on it) I became immediately suspicious of the intent of this film, and doing a little googling I was proven correct. The French writer/ director Justine Triet was "outraged" by the "misogyny" of the Depp-Heard trial-- in other words the "abandonment" of the "believe all women" mantra in favor of the due process rights of the accused. Triet even attempts to "discredit" the audio evidence that enlightened many about the true nature of Heard and helped expose her; the film includes an audio played during the "misogynistic" trial in which the woman accused of killing her husband sounds like a "monster" but she really isn't because she "only" hit him once and he was "hitting" himself after that. What a ridiculous premise! This film is a contrivance with a gender political motive to deceive the gullible, and because of that it discredits both the director and her film as well as film critics and the Oscars. For foisting this shameless propaganda film on the public, Criterion doesn't deserve people paying them good money for this
