Confessions of an Islamophobe Kindle Edition

While the United States, and indeed most of the Western world, fights an active war against Islamic terrorism, we remain in deep denial about who truly is the enemy. Elites across North America and Europe fight to silence those who argue, compellingly, that the roots of terrorism are within Islam itself which has evolved into far more than a religion—it is a radical and dangerous political ideology which consciously, if often tacitly, places itself in opposition to democracy and basic human rights.

Robert Spencer, one of the world’s foremost critical scholars of Islam, has been labeled Public Enemy #1 by those who apologize for Islam and its violent excesses. He has been called a propagandist, a racist, and an “Islamophobe”—a term that he willingly embraces in this provocative and important book.

There needs to be a thoroughgoing and honest public discussion of the acceptable parameters of criticism of Islam in light of genuine interests not only of national security but of civilizational survival. Our lives, quite literally, could depend on it, as could those of our children and our children’s children. Confessions of an Islamophobe is an attempt to begin that discussion.

Review

"Robert Spencer is one of the most informed scholars on the nature of Islam and the jihadist threat. He is also one of the bravest. Confessions of an Islamophobe is an indispensable guide to how American leftists from Linda Sarsour to Bernie Sanders have joined forces with the Islamic enemies of women, gays, Jews, Christians, and other infidels, in an unholy alliance against America and its freedoms." -- David Horowitz, bestselling author and founder of the David Horowitz Freedom Center

"For years now, legitimate concerns about Islamic terrorism and related issues have been dismissed as 'bigotry' and 'Islamophobia.' In this masterful new book, Robert Spencer explains why those charges are unjustified. He details what is at stake, and how the genuine threat is being ignored and enabled by those who direct campaigns of abuse against those who are sounding the alarm.
Confessions of an Islamophobe is a clarion call, a clear and heartfelt appeal to those who think terrorism is a matter of partisan politics, and that this threat has been trumped-up or exaggerated. As Spencer shows, the stakes couldn't be higher. This is one book to give to lawmakers and all Americans who don't realize the full extent of what is happening today." -- Steven Emerson, The Investigative Project on Terrorism

"Again, a truly historic book by truth-teller Robert Spencer, hero of our times and one of the bravest defenders of liberty that I have ever met. Read it and learn how much we need courageous 'Islamophobes' as Robert in order to stay free people." -- Geert Wilders MP, Chairman Party for Freedom, The Netherlands

"Robert Spencer writes with courage, wit and erudition about the most pressing problem of our times. His work is must reading for anyone who wants to understand why Islam produces so many violent outcomes and so many threats to life in the West." -- David Goldman, author of How Civilizations Die: (And Why Islam Is Dying Too)

"No one has upset the Islamophobia cabal more than Robert Spencer. First, he knows more about Islamic doctrine than they do. Next, he has outed all the tricks they use in their taqiyyah bag to disinform the public. Finally, and most importantly, Robert will not be cowed. Please read this important book and make sure you share it with as many people as possible." -- Ayaan Hirsi Ali, human rights activist, author of Heretic: Why Islam Needs Reformation Now

"Don't want to get run down by a truck on a New York street by a maniac screaming 'Allahu akbar?' Object to polygamy and female genital mutilation? You must be an Islamophobe. Whether you are a dedicated Islamophobe or merely Islamophobia-curious, Robert Spencer's brilliant new book is for you!
Confessions of an Islamophobe will convince all but the clinically insane that Islamophobia is at least as virtuous as the media's all-consuming Nazi-phobia — and somewhat more urgent." -- Ann Coulter, author of Adios America!

Nobody explains the threat that Islam poses to the United States and the West better than Robert Spencer. He writes in clear and concise language that non-scholars can understand. This informative book describes the threat that Islam poses to Christians, Jews, secular Muslims, women, secular liberals, and gays. A separate chapter is devoted to each of these groups. This book may not be politically correct, but it is definitely factually correct. We can avoid reality, but we cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality. This book tells us that our freedom is being threatened and that those who wish to take our freedom from us must not be appeased. This is an important book, and I strongly recommend it.

Brilliantly written. Robert Spencer has a way of writing that is very unusual. Clear, simple language. Facts, facts, and more facts. I find very few authors who are easy to read, who know how to write in ways that make you feel like you're not reading a book. Instead, it feels like he's just talking to you. This is a gift, and incredibly important.

Content? The threat of Islam is very real. He has been on the forefront for many years, warning, teaching, educating, sharing. His site, jihadwatch.org, is one of the most important one out there for knowing what is really happening in the world with Islam.

If you are not really aware of what's happening with Islam, his books and his site are the best out there for doing a crash course. Islam is THE threat of our times. Educate yourself. There is much at stake.

This is an important, fact-based expose on how Islam represents a serious threat to constitutional liberties and civil society because it is directly opposed to the values we hold most dear. Spencer is authoritative in his treatment of the relevant Islamic texts and how they are interpreted by the Muslims themselves. Most importantly, Spencer details how our government and others in the West are systematically failing to address this threat and thereby exacerbating it.

I have two major criticisms. The first is copy editing. It looks like this book was written in a hurry and the draft wasn't reviewed prior to publication.

The second is that Spencer could and should address the idea of religious toleration more specifically, looking at the ideas of Locke and Voltaire and other Enlightenment thinkers rather than continually going back to World War II and the Nazis, which at this point is sensationalized and treated as the only conflict period in history. He would be on stronger footing with this book if he asserted, as I do in my books, that religious toleration was never meant to be a unilateral right, and always intended to be bilateral, based on an honest and forthright submission to the laws of civil society. Even when placed in the Bill of Rights, that assumption underlay it; the Founders never in their wildest dreams imagined Muslims on United States soil, and never dreamed of a sect or a medieval death cult coming here and willfully despising the society that welcomed them.

Robert Spencer understands that terrorism is not simply terror – some people doing terrible things on the spur of the moment. It is murder advanced to the level of a moral principle and institutionalized in an organization. Before they can act, terrorists must believe that their violence is moral or holy so that it will achieve some higher good. The actors are not “loser terrorists,” as President Trump recently referred to them.

Therefore, the first thing to understand is the ideology incarnated in the terrorist organization that allows terrorists to do this; it is the source of their moral legitimacy. Without it, they or their organization cannot exist.

To claim, as so many of our politicians do, that the West needs to improve the economic conditions in the Middle East in order to drain the swamp of terrorism is profoundly mistaken. In this book, Spencer shows that terrorists are produced by a totalitarian ideology justifying terrorism, and its mission is the violent imposition of Islamic religious law. That is its root cause.

For these reasons, more Westerners need to understand that Islamic terrorism is based upon a deformed theology, and unless it can be reformed at that level, economic engineering or the development of constitutional political order will not succeed.

Many thanks to Spencer for illustrating this in compelling prose.

I find many books and reports on why we should not fear the "religion of peace." I wonder if these writers have read the Koran or observed modern history. Islam has never been peaceful, never can be, according to the Koran and many Mid-Eastern Musllim scholars. If you study these things, you find good reason for fear of opposing Islam.
Robert Spencer has studied this issue in greater depth than anyone else. What critics call bias is actually the best scholarship. He publishes the clear truth that is there for anyone to find if they will.
It is amazing how so much of modern academia and many religious and national leaders have bowed to Islamic intimidation.
Robert Spencer is very courageous to take a stand that exposes him to vicious threats.
It is not Muslims who need protection. Robert Spencer is the one who needs security protection wherever he goes.
For a first-hand account of the nature of Islam, from one who suffered as a Muslim politician in Iran, read The House I Left Behind by Daniel Shayesteh.

If you're interested in the Islamic goal of changing America from within, this is a must-read book. Very well written backed by actual happenings around the globe demonstrating the march the Islamists are on. Robert Spencer articulates with vivid examples how we're being manipulated not only by the Islamists but by the Left, who has at least an emotional alignment with them to bring down our country as we know it. You don't want to make it a quick read. Lots of material to digest, understand and act on.

Thus book confirmed what the real situation is. I commend Mr. Spencer for having the guts to stand up and be counted. Robert Spencer has extensive detailed knowledge of Islam from the core Islamic texts and from utterances of Imams and from Muslim mentality and behaviour. This book is proof that "Islamophobia" is a myth and that the fake derogatory term is used as an accusation to shut down honest discussion of Islamic jihad and attitudes to apostates, other faiths, homosexuality, women, and criticism of Islam. This book is essential reading for anyone needing to be enlightened about the true nature of Islam. I can also recommend Robert Spencer's website Jihadwatch.com.
