Ends of the Earth: A historical adventure thriller of the Roman Empire based on real events (Epic Adventure) Kindle Edition

From the bestselling author of Silk Road comes a brand-new, sweeping action epic about the lost legion of Carrhae. Set against a sprawling canvas of Parthia, the Han dynasty, the Seven Seas of ancient Arab traders, and Rome in the last days of the Republic, this is historical adventure on a breathtaking scale.

Roman Empire, 53BC: In the wake of catastrophic defeat at the battle of Carrhae, Roman tribune, Valerius, is taken prisoner at the far reaches of the Parthian Empire. It is the ends of the earth, and he vows to somehow find a way home.

In Rome, Pompey and Caesar battle for absolute power in the last days of the Republic, and senators plot to take sides, as the city convulses into riot and civil war. No one is safe.

Valerius soon realises that if he ever does find his way back, his problems will be far from over. Dark secrets will not stay buried. Politics and intrigue bend to no man. And standing between him and his wife is the man who abandoned him to die on the battlefield.

'Blazing with adventure, epic in scope, and utterly compulsive.' Waterstone’s UK.

Great historical novel as usual from Colin Falconer. Well researched and full of plot twists covering much of the world from the Roman Empire to china.

Another good read. The back story is probably close to true. Valerius' character and determination make a good story. And it is a change from ex CIA, or other ex agents, out for revenge. Or some corrupt politician.

Thrilling, inventive, great cast of characters intertwined with history so well. And Falconer's style is first class, literary and entrancing.

The story was engaging and the writing done well, but it lacked emotion. The characters were emotionless and flat, very much a lost opportunity. Congratulations to the writer on this epic novel, but it needed more depth. I was never lost in the characters. The main character never really had an arc. Its a worthy read but it's not more than 3 stars.

The book is set around the turbulent events that include the ill fated invasion of Parthia by Crassus, his subsequent defeat and death at the battle of Carrhae, the civil war between Caesar and Pompey for control of Rome and finally the death of Caesar at the hands of Brutus and his senate confederates. Falconer weaves an entertaining story around these pivotal events in Romes history. The author is an accomplished story teller with a nice style that’s never dull.

Another fantastic read by Colin Falconer!!

No spoilers: falconer is my favorite modern writer. He writes characters that I cant help falling in love with. I Was scared and angry about the situation the main characters had been put into. I genuinely loved the wife of the main Tribune. I felt so strongly for her. This is a tale of adventure, war, torture, death, greed, and true love.

Dont wait to read this epic, but sad historical fiction
