Evidence of the Affair Kindle Edition

The repercussions of an illicit affair unfold in this short story by bestselling author Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Dear stranger…

A desperate young woman in Southern California sits down to write a letter to a man she’s never met—a choice that will forever change both their lives.

My heart goes out to you, David. Even though I do not know you…

The correspondence between Carrie Allsop and David Mayer reveals, piece by piece, the painful details of a devastating affair between their spouses. With each commiserating scratch of the pen, they confess their fears and bare their souls. They share the bewilderment over how things went so wrong and come to wonder where to go from here.

Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affair explores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken.

Perfect book to clean a “reading palette”
4⭐️It was so short (less than 90 pages), light and very easy to read. I haven’t expect to like it so much. All those letters, secrets, connections they all shared and the little twist - that was what I was not expecting.Definitely a good book to recommend.

What a wonderful story. I love that it has a few references to TJR's other books. I love the bond between David and Carrie. I love the ending so much. It's so satisfying. I'm so happy for Carrie. I think David deserves so much better but I'm happy for him as well. I hope David and Carrie had a lifelong friendship.

Although I don’t like books about affairs I thought this was a cool way to talk about it through letters. A very good ending!

Amazing short story! I listened to this Audible book this morning while working.

I am a little late to the party on this one...but I loved it! ❤️

Beginning in 1976, a written correspondence commences between the wife and husband whose spouses are having an affair with one another.

87 pages. That's all it took to make me love the characters and to make me root for David and Carrie with all my heart. I'm in awe with how Taylor Jenkins Reid made me feel so many strong emotions. The whole book is written through letters, but don't let that stop you: it was definitely the perfect way to tell this story. Some letters were gut-wrenching . They felt so real, like they were addressed to me.

“I’ve always been struck by the idea that you can’t be all that happy something has returned if it doesn’t go away in the first place.”

This a very short story, but packs a powerful, poignant, and emotional punch. How an author manages to cram so many turbulent feelings, and incredible character growth into such a small amount of space is remarkable

Not only was this book heart wrenching, it was also fascinating, what with the aspect of music and lyrics bringing Sydney and Ridge together. If there’s one thing that gets me as emotional as books do, it’s music. I have to say: my favorite part of this whole novel would be the lyrics. Every word was just so perfect for every scene, every emotion, and I just loved it beyond everything else. A gorgeous soundtrack accompanies Maybe Someday and it contains the songs Sydney and Ridge wrote for and about each other. Listening to the soundtrack album while reading the respective scenes was the best thing ever! I’ve never had such an unforgettable reading experience until this one!

“Lately, it feels like my whole life has a similar feeling to when you check the clock on a Saturday and realize it’s already half past four.”

I didn't expect the ending. The twist was SO GOOD!
I felt so many emotions reading the letters-heartbreak, despair, hope. As a married woman, I would be devastated if something like this happened to me, and I shed real tears for Carrie and David. I did like that we got to see some of the letters from Janet and Ken as well, despite how sick and angry they made me feel. While their spouses were having an affair, these strangers found each other, helped and supported each other, and it was beautiful.

“It is funny the crazy things our brains make up to save us from the truth.”

Nice quick story, but predictable! Still enjoyed it. It’s written in letters back in forth between couples. She did incorporate lifestyle around the timeframe of the letters, which made it believable. Fun.quick.read!

I love Taylor Jenkins Reid and she never disappoints. I love that this was all in letters back and forth. I love the tiny shock at the end. I didn’t really know what was going to happen but was pleasantly surprised nonetheless.

I know this was supposed to be a quick read but come on! After developing the characters so well, just to end it like this was a surprise. The twist at the end was awful. I liked that their relationship/ correspondence was innocent and that they had developed a friendship. The ending ruined it for me.

Loved this short story! I was not expecting the twist at the end with the way the story was ending, but I'm not surprised. Still, a very good quick read. 3.5/5
