The GCI Waterside SunShade Backpack Beach Chair is ideal for the beach, watersports, picnics, festivals, tailgates and sporting events, with its easy-carry backpack straps that leave hands free for coolers, kids, or concert tickets. With a 4-position reclining backrest, adjustable canopy, armrests, and a head pillow, this folding chair provides comfort and support for hours. When the temperature rises, mesh paneling ensures reliable airflow for ventilated seating that stays cool, and a built-in beverage holder keeps cold drinks at the ready. A large storage pocket is attached to the back of this outdoor chair, so that all outdoor essentials can be transported without the need for an extra bag or backpack. Seat height is 11 inches, and the sturdy powder-coated aluminum/steel hybrid frame supports up to 250 pounds. I'd searched in stores and online for a good beach chair for years. This one ticks all the boxes just as a chair, with the sun shade as a surprisingly handy bonus.

As a chair it's comfortable, and that's what I'd expect. The folding and adjustment mechanisms are both smooth and sturdy. Folded, it carries easily and comfortably.

The shade has really impressed me. It offers good coverage while also being simple to deploy and stow. It can the adjusted easily with one hand and stays in place once set. Even in strong winds it will hold its position.

I wish there was more to it for the price I paid! It’s functional…kind of. The adjustments for the angle of the chair are a bit hard to adjust and get to the position you want it at. Carrying it as a backpack is a bit uncomfortable since it so wide strapped. The materials feel okay not too cheap. The sun shade is okay pretty sturdy and provides enough shades up until your thighs. That’s where an umbrella will come in and provide full shade. If you just want shade for your face and shoulders then this is the chair for you. I wish it wasn’t too low to ground because then I’d be able to take this to parks or fields and have a little more height. I feel like I could’ve just purchased a nice high quantity lounging chair for both occasions or either one and bought a separate attachment which they sell on Amazon and connect the sun shade to said chair….but overall it’s a nice chair.

Pros and cons. Cons: 1) Unlike my previous beach chair this had no insulated cooler for drink cans, though the drawstring bag attached to the frame is large enough to take one. 2) The drawstring does not completely close the bag so loose objects - sunglasses, keys, sunscreen etc fall out if the chair is upended - as it will be when you open it on the beach or stow it in the trunk. 3) Again unlikely previous model, the chair frame cuts painfully and awkwardly across the lower back when the loaded chair is carried as a backpack. Pros: 1) Very effective sunshade. 2) Sturdy, light frame.

I love the look of this chair but there was a piece broke off the metal part of the chair. Also there was no head cushion rest
like the one in the photo.

It broke the second time I used it. I'm not overweight or that large either. The concept is good; reclining, with shade, lightweight and built in backpack straps make easy transport.
However, the lightweight materials make it really flimsy and breakable.
