The JBL Bar 1300X is a fantastic sounding sound bar. It is ideal for streaming your favorite music or watching movies. I've been listening to Dolby Atmos quality music from Amazon Music Unlimited. It sounds really, really nice. We streamed Oppenheimer from Peacock last night. It was spectacular!
I have been waiting for this technology. No need to run wires all over the room. Great sound. Wireless technology.
Set up is simple. Plug the included HDMI cable into your TV's HDMI ARCe port. Plug the woofer into a power outlet. Move the rear speakers to the back of your room. Push the calibration button on the remote for the sound bar to sense the room and fine-tune its settings. Enjoy!

The JBL1300X is a very large soundbar that comes with a very large subwoofer. I expected the soundbar to be quite large, but the sheer size of the subwoofer was a surprise. The JBL soundbar is very heavy, which presents a few mounting challenges. I replaced a smaller soundbar and had to get a heavy duty soundbar TV bracket. Since the JBL has upward firing speakers it needs to be spaced below the TV to avoid interfere with the sound. The weight of the soundbar causes the bracket to flex. When the surround speakers are placed on either side of the soundbar, it adds a lot more weight and causes the soundbar to hang downwards at an angle. Wall or TV mounting this soundbar is not ideal, and its best placed on a sturdy shelf or TV unit.
The surround speakers are charged by placing them onto the soundbar where they are held in place by very strong magnets. This makes it difficult to remove them after charging.
Initial setup was straightforward, but it requires the JBL One app to fully configure the system and update the software.
The soundbar must be calibrated initially to set Dolby parameters. The only manual settings available on the remote or app are surround level, bass level and Dolby effects level.
When I tested the soundbar by streaming hires music files via bluetooth, the sound was boxy with a distinct 'over processed' tonality. I played around with the 3 band equalizer but could not dial in a natural setting. The biggest culprit is the subwoofer. It has too much upper bass and does not go very deep. The upper bass is boxy sounding and high enough in frequency to muddy the critical midrange. For such a large box, the subwoofer has disappointing bass response. I am comparing it to my discrete home heater setup
which has a subwoofer from the other 3 LettER Hi-Fi subwoofer brand. It is 2/3 the size of the JBL, has taught punchy bass, goes boneshaking low. and sounds great with music.
The JBL shows its mettle with movie soundtracks. As soon as its fed a surround encoded soundtrack, the soundbar, sub and surrounds spring to life. Voice quality is good and the bass sounds a lot more balanced.
The loose bass response works better for movie rumbles, explosions and other deep bass movie effects, than for music.
The JBL soundbar is not a replacement for a discrete component home theater with separate speakers for 5.1 or 7.1. The settings are largely automated with a few manual settings. The display is limited. Rear speakers need to be recharged at least once a week. Sound quality is geared for movie soundtracks rather than music. On the plus side, it costs a lot less than a discrete system, is fully wireless and occupies a lot less space. I am using the JBL as a secondary system in a small room where its performance has made watching movies a lot more immersive than the old mini soundbar its replaced.
I can recommend the JBL given its limitations which I pointed out. There are a lot of excellent soundbars at this price level which deserve to be auditioned if possible, to find one that suits your room and preferences best.
