    I'm an electrician now
Not going to lie, it was a bit daunting at first. But after quadruple-checking that my breaker box was off, gloving off (I know, it's a bit extra - alas), and whipping out the screw-driver... I became an electrician. This was relatively easy to install - plus the app walks you through how to find everything. At first I thought, hey the building has a black/red cable - I'm sure they go with the black/red screws... wrong, the lights didn't turn on. So I switched them and fiat lux. I didn't have a current finder like the app suggested but this trial/error worked out too.My lights now dim, I'm alive, the house didn't burn down, and nobody got shocked. I'd call that a win.It all took about 15-20 minutes; it could probably be faster if I hadn't taken on so many precautions but given that I wasn't an electrician at the time, I wanted to make sure to live to tell the tale.Oh, and the "neutral" wires were REALLY shoved in the back of the cable box there so - make sure you look thoroughly for those.Good luck, farewell, y'all got this.

This Kasa Smart Dimmer Switch is a really good quality one especially for the value price. It is very comparable to many of the “named brand” ones you might purchase at a home supply retailer. It comes with everything needed for installation and has complete installation instructions. Installation is not hard but a little electrical knowledge is helpful. Once installed it works well with the Alexa app and the Kasa app. Works great cutting on/off with app or using voice prompts through Alexa. Only negative as others have mentioned the switch plate that comes with it does not fit very well.

I have two of these switches connected to separate lights. They both work perfectly fine, and I have had no issues with connectivity or integrating this device with my smart home. It works great with Home Assistant and Google Home, which are the two, "smart" homes I use.
My biggest gripe with this dimmer switch is that it is difficult to install due to it being significantly larger than most switches. If you have a small electrical box or an electrical box with multiple switches within, this switch will be quite difficult to install.
Overall, this switch works great if you can bend the wires around in the box to install it. I've had no issues with setup, and it works perfectly.

I have dozens of TP-Link KASA products installed in my home, including a dozen smart plugs (majority only get seasonal use), nine on/off switches, one 3 way dimmer, and five of these dimmer switches.

They are well made, an unbeatable value when on sale, and straightforward to install (note that all TP-Link's Kasa switches require a neutral wire - depending on when your house was built and how the switch boxes were wired, you may or may not have a neutral available in your wall switch boxes).

These connect to the 2.4Ghz band of WiFi - note that these switches can end up out of range of your WiFi if you have your access point or router poorly positioned in your house and/or you have a substandard access point or router - I have no connectivity issues with an access point located on the ceiling of my first floor in the center of my 2 story home - be prepared to up your WiFi coverage if you're serious about having a smart home - I have a separate IoT VLAN defined on my router and provisioned to the 2.4 GHz band of my multiband AP to keep my IoT devices off of my home network. A single AP covers my 2700 SF house, for both the 2.4 GHz band IoT devices, and the 5 Ghz band human facing devices on my home network.

These switches are large, as are most smart switches - I've found they install easily in the modern plastic switch boxes in my renovated kitchen and family room addition, but can be a tight fit in the original steel switch boxes in the remainder of my 1963 vintage home - I have taken to replacing the original steel boxes with new "old work" plastic boxes, and will spec the extra deep "old work" boxes if the stud cavity allows for it - this solves the space issue, and again if serious about a smart home are some of the things you need to do to be on board.

These switches are "Decora" style and are activated by pushing the bottom of the plastic paddle for both on and off functions - while the ergonomics are a bit different than a standard "dumb" Decora switch, I like them, and honestly I use voice or routines to control the switches to the point where the physical switch interface is a non-issue.

In multi-gang box situations, I have taken to replacing any "dumb" toggle switches with corresponding "dumb" Decora paddle switches for those switches I don't need smart functionality in, in order to keep the look consistent. I have had no issues with the "yoke" depth of these TP-Link Kasa switches in terms of being able to install standard wallplates - I have replaced my old steel "Mulberry" plates with screwless plastic "Claro" branded Lutron wall plates for a nice clean consistent modern look - see photo. Steel plates are a no-no BTW with smart switches - they obstruct radio signals no matter what tech you are using - WiFi, Zigbee, Lutron ClearConnect etc.

I also use Wago lever style wire nuts for the end point connections for the wire leads coming off of these Kasa switches - they save some space and can also save some wear and tear on the house wiring rather than have to untwist pretwisted and wire nutted connections to make changes and/or additions in the future.

I have dozens of Alexa routines set up using these switches - the switches can be used to initiate an integration, unlike my Lutron Caseta switches, which can only be acted on by a routine, they themselves can't initiate a routine. These also integrate with Home Assistant.

These have been dead reliable for me in terms of connectivity and responsiveness. Most of the negative reviews are unwarranted IMO.

I recently installed a few WeMo switches so I could test them out, but found they weren't well designed and I wasn't particularly happy with them. So I started searching around for a new smart switch (Dimmer), and ran across the Kasa switches. I went ahead and purchased one to test it out.

Installation: 5 stars, super easy and much better in my opinion than the WeMo switches. Main wires screw onto to the switch plate, and a couple of wires run off to attach with nuts. WeMo had all wires run off to attach with wire nuts which resulted in large amounts of wire and clutter behind the switches making them much harder to work with.
Application: 5 stars, switch was immediately recognized and I had no problems with the application. Unlike the WeMo switches where I had several that had significant problems connecting, and they constantly disconnect. The Kasa switch has had a couple of times where the physical switch didn't work for a short period of time, but the app has always worked even when the switch didn't, and then the following day the physical switch would again work. Not sure if that is the result of a bad switch or if something else is going on, but ultimately it is a relatively minor issue as I can always use the application to turn the lights on or off if needed.
Wireless: again the setup and connection were easy, and I haven't had any problems with the switch staying connected to my network and always being accessible via the application. I have loads of problems with this on the WeMo switches.
Design: The design is much more well thought out from the wiring to even the physical function of the Switch than the WeMo version. WeMo uses a capacitive touch plate that runs the entire length of the switch. This results in the dimmer level constantly being change, turned off, etc... whenever you turn the light switch on or off because almost the entire switch is capacitive touch. Kasa on the other hand has their dimmer buttons at the very top of the switch so they are never in the way but are very easy to access.
Quality: Quality seems to be on par with the WeMo, but the design decisions were clearly well thought out. If feels like someone actually tested the Kasa Switch, while it feels like no one actually ever tested the WeMo switch design of they would have easily seen and addressed several of the blatant issues it has.

Note: there is one oddity with the Kasa switch, you may consider it a good or bad thing, but when turning the switch on/off there is a slightly delay (maybe 1-2 seconds). It caught me off guard at first and made me think the switch wasn't working properly. I'm still on the fence on whether this is a good thing or not, I think I prefer the instant switching action, but I can see why some people might prefer the delay and once you realize it is there it is honestly not a major issue.

The Kasa Dimmer switch isn't perfect, there are a few oddities to it, but it generally functions well, it seems to be far more well thought out than the WeMo switches and is significantly more reliable as a "Smart" switch. If you are trying to decide between Kasa and WeMo, don't wait, go with the Kasa switches, they are significantly better in almost every way than my WeMo Switches have been. At some point I will be replacing the rest of my switches with the Kasa Switches and removing WeMo entirely from my house as they just have way too many problems with them.

TL;DR: Excellent smart light switch. The Kasa App walks you through the entire installation and made it REALLY easy. Installation took 30-40 minutes without any help. Linking the switch to the Kasa app and wifi was easy. The only odd thing I noticed was that the brightness calibration did not seem to have the degree of sensitivity that it indicates in the app (see full review below).

    FULL REVIEW
This is my 7th Kasa smart device and the first smart light switch I've purchased. As someone who is not very handy with household electrical, I found the guided installation instructions in the Kasa app absolutely incredible. The app walks you through every single step with total clarity - there were no instances where I had to guess or try to figure out what the app was asking me to do. Installation took somewhere between 30-40 minutes which included time that I spent running down to our circuit breaker. I was able to complete the installation by myself without any help.

Once the switch was installed, the Kasa app made getting the device linked to my wifi and smart home a breeze. It took maybe one minute to get everything linked up. The setup process was straightforward and easier than I expected.

The only oddity that I noticed was at the setup step for the calibration of the dimmer. During setup, you will be given a slider that will allow you to calibrate the dimmer levels based on the type of bulbs that you are using. The slider shows the lowest dimmer range for both incandescent and LED bulbs, however as I tried to use this, I noticed that my dimmable LED bulbs did not respond to anything but the largest changes on this scale. As I would change the minimum threshold for the dimmer (either up or down), there was no noticeable difference to the brightness of my bulbs. In practice, this doesn't seem to make much of a difference to the actual dimming functionality of the switch.

Also, it doesn't appear that you can control dimness using voice control with Google Home. To change the dimmer settings, you will still need to either control it from the actual switch itself or open the Kasa app on your phone.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this switch. It makes a nice, affordable upgrade and like my other Kasa smart home products is so easy to set up and use. 100% recommended.

Extremely easy to install, because there are ONLY two wire terminals. In our case there were 2 red wires on the Line side (Power side) feeding power, as it turned out one of them continues on to a plug. 60 yrs ago the Sparky did that as a convenience to save himself work. I decided to leave the connections as they were (They worked for over 50 yrs), and connected the wire to the bedroom ceiling light to the Load side of the switch. The rest is just reassembly, and tucking everything neatly inside of the box. I will say that if your light switch IS in a small box, then you should consider upgrading to a larger gang box is my advice. We happened to have a 4x4 box fitted with a single gang plate adapter so space was NOT an issue. So if you have a good sized electrical box installed, this Kasa Smart switch IS the switch for You. It is very intuitive, I never had to read the instructions until I reached the "Program Stage" of this operation. To associate this I was forced to read the paper in the box, and Debb downloaded the Alexa App onto her Google Pixel 6, then open Alexa on your phone go to bottom to devices and Name the switch (Bedroom Light). Once that is done all you need to do is talk to Alexa and say "Alexa Bedroom light on 25%", and Budda-Boom Budda-Bing the light turns to 25% (We had previously installed a Costco dimmable LED Horizon light). The Kasa switch has legacy Up and Down legacy buttons to adjust brightness if you are experiencing Alexa communication issues. It also has a master switch that dominates the switch face, if you touch it for at least 1 second it will turn the light Off or On depending on the current power phase of the Kasa dimmer switch. Final conclusion: This is a very cool device that will help you reach your home automation goals and is very intuitive in design for an easy install if you have a good sized switch box existing for your application. I hope this helps. We are for SURE going to order more of these KASA devices for our home. The price makes home automation very achievable for people on a budget.
