Great sound!
4 out of 5 stars
Great sound!
great sounding product for the price level. Really puts out a crisp clear sound. My only complaint is on rare occasion the sub will unpair from the bar but quickly reconnects. Internet search shows it is likely wifi disruption as my router is close by but not really a problem at all.

After tolerating the speakers on the back of my LG tv for a year, I decided to splurge and improve my watching experience. From all I heard, keeping LG speakers with an LG tv is the easiest way to add a product since they are both on the same LG ecosystem.

This has turned out to be very true and I would recommend this soundbar for anyone, especially if you already own an LG tv as at that point it's basically plug and play. The sound quality is great, the base is really meaty and voices are far more crisp. It's also got some great bluetooth and wifi functionality, I mainly use the wifi functionality when I connected it to Spotify on my phone.

After three months of use, I'd say the price was well worth it for an elevated experience.

Very happy with this. Extremely easy to set up. Sound is noticeably better then tv speakers. I have an LG TV and it integrates flawlessly. The only flaw is that the tv (OLED65C1PUB) sits too low on its stand, and as short as this sound bar is, it still blocks a very small part of the picture. More of a flaw with the TV then the sound bar. I put the TV on an ikea LACK shelf (Sitting on the piece of furniture, not wall mounted) and it is perfect.

I had high expectations for this sound bar. My expectations were somewhat met. I was lucky to have received a gift card as the price is a bit high, so me f I had to pay full price not sure would have purchased. It has deep bass and great sound. It does behave awkward at times it disconnects and reconnects within seconds, not sure why. I will try firmware update to see if that helps. I also have blocked internet access as it continuously tries to update every time it was set on. Work well with LG TV via the ARC channel and delivers nice sound when watching Atmos movies. Has a few sound modes to enhance cinema, sports or dialogues. I am happy with the product but not blown off my feet.

The build quality of the product is decent enough. The subwoofer that came with the unit has not worked since day one. Everything connects and green lights. But zero sound / bass.

Per my excitement I ventured down the rabbit hole of troubleshooting with no results. I am still waiting to hear something from LGs product/warranty support.

I really wanted to like this LG SP8YA 3.1.2 sound bar since I bought it on sale for $450, but it killed our 5 Ghz wireless network every time it was turned on. I hooked it up to my bedroom Sony 75" XBR-75X900H Full Array LED TV via an Arc (HDMI cable). I have an Asus AC1900 (AC68U) Wireless Router, and it supports both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz bandwidth. When standing in front of the LG Soundbar, I ran Speed Test on my IPhone on the 5 Ghz bandwidth and I would get 260 Mbps down and 13 Mbps up. After turning on the LG Soundbar, I would re-test and only get about 30-15 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up. If I switched to using the 2.4 Ghz, I would get about 84 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up. Since I am paying for 250 Mbps internet down, I want to be able to access the full bandwidth. So I don’t want to downgrade to 2.4 Ghz just to be able to use a soundbar, that is not an option. Also why would I want to mess around with my 5 Ghz wireless router setting to set a specific channel, when it currently auto selects the best channel for the frequency range. Also if I ever wanted to upgrade to a new wireless mesh router, some of the newer routers auto selects between 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz band, and you can’t change it. Googling the LG soundbar wireless Wifi issue, I found a forum that mentioned that LG soundbar uses 5 Ghz band internally to connect to sub-woofer and rear speakers. The kicker is that LG knows about this problem because specifically in the documentation it says not to place the soundbar within 10 feet of your wireless router, which mine is not because it is located in the downstairs office.
The soundbar would kill the 5 Ghz wireless signal within about 10-12 feet radius from the sound bar. Kids would complain that they can’t Netflix in the living room when this sound bar was on, not good.
If LG is reading this, the simple solution is to allow a hardwire connection to subwoofer. Also allow users to turn off the Bluetooth and Wifi on the soundbar if they run into connectivity issues.
For the actual LG Soundbar sound quality, I am not an audiophile, but for me the LG SP8YA 3.1.2 overall sound was just okay. I was able to download the LG soundbar app on my iPhone to connect the WiFi. It initially didn’t work and I could not connect to soundbar via the app. I tried it again after 30 minutes and it connected. When I turned on the TV and sound bar, I saw a message that said “B-Update”, which I assume was an automatic firmware update which took about 10-15 minutes to download. After that I ran the Room calibration tool. I used my Sony TV Google TV app to watch Disney+ and tested it on Avengers movie. It sounded alright, not great and not bad. Better than the TV speaker and had some bass. The bass was just okay, I could feel it in big action sequence, but it was not always there in all scenes. The volume control was weird too, it would only go from 0 - 40, but my Sony TV goes from 1 to 100. So it would skip ever 2 to 3 numbers when you move the volume up and down.
I also noticed a slight lip sync issue, like .1 second delay. This was more noticeable when watching cartoons when you can see the lips move and sound comes out .1 seconds later. When watching movies l, I did start to notice the lip sync issue, but it was less noticeable. This lip sync issue was the 2nd deal breaker for me.
The LED screen always on is front was a little distracting while watching movies. It should turn off after 15 seconds, or at least have the option in LG app to do that.
I have to return this LG soundbar (and not buy any LG soundbars for now), because my 5 Ghz wireless network is more important than any soundbar. I use my 5 Ghz Wifi for work and streaming content.
I have tried other sound bars like the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) soundbar for $450. The overall sound was good and the dialog was clear, but no bass. You really need the subwoofer for watching movies, it’s not optional. Even my wife said Sonos Beam sounded alright but had no bass. I can’t justify paying $750 for a Sonos Sub, when the Beam was $450 (total cost of $1200 for the system without surround speakers). I really cannot justify spending more for my audio equipment than my TV, and this is for our bedroom, not a dedicated home theater setup.
I went to search for Soundbars and interference with Wifi signals and found that there are a lot of issues with most sound bars and Wifi signals. I have read a lot of sound bar reviews and someone always complains about wireless subwoofer would stop syncing to Soundbar or go out sporadically. Now I am wondering if that has to do with Wifi interference (or microwave interference), maybe from neighbor’s new Wifi setup. I went to look for a sound bars that had a wired subwoofer, but all the new sound bars come with wireless subwoofers. My wife doesn’t want a receiver and bunch of speaker wire cables in the bedroom, so I am back in search for a 3.1 sound bar for under $500-$800 that just works. If I can’t find one, then my last alternative is to get a receiver and small Klipsch 5.1 reference speakers for around $800.

This soundbar is like an unfinished product. First, it turns off itself automatically after 30-40 mins of playing. When I connected my PC to this soundbar (the main reason I bought it in the first place) it made a weird hissing noise. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in multiple times, but nothing changed. Finally, this soundbar seems to meddle with the 5ghz network of my house, I notice my phone download speed sometimes drops to 60-100mbs (originally 800mbs). Will definitely send it back and wont consider any speaker from LG ever again

Wanted something better than our entry level Bose sound bar. Considered the high end Sonos but didn't want to spend that much. We're quite pleased with the sound. Good to have the center channel for voice clarity and the sub for that big theater experience with movies. Instructions for connections could be clearer-- especially for the HDMI ARC.
Works well for music from my laptop as well. Bluetooth connected easily.
