A NEW YORK TIMES, USA TODAY BESTSELLER!

The
New York Times bestselling author, governor of South Dakota, and former congresswoman tells eye-opening stories of DC dysfunction, shares lessons from leading her state through unprecedented challenge, and explains how we seize this moment to move America forward.

Any elected official can talk about how broken our government is. But their solutions always seem to involve more money, new programs—and reelection to another term. Few offer an unfiltered glimpse into how government
actually works, empowering citizens with the knowledge to be part of the solution.

Governor Kristi Noem never planned on being in politics. But her concern for our nation compelled her, on a local, national, and global level. Because she took a different path into public service, as a concerned mom and rancher, her insights help every citizen understand how positive change really happens,
despite the dysfunction in Washington DC.

Governor Noem explains how the country is not going back to the Republican party of the 2000s. And that’s a good thing. This book is packed with surprising stories and practical lessons from the front lines of the battle. And she names names.

A lot has changed since 2016, and based on her accomplishments in Congress and as Governor, no one is better equipped than Kristi Noem to explain the tremendous opportunities this opens up for every American.

Inspirational leadership For Such a Time as This
This book is practical beyond the political leaning one might think this is all about as it has a lot to say about the type of leader Americans really want. Leaders should be just that but Kristi's first hand experience shows how that the status quo is instilled in newbies immediately to mindlessly follow the system controlled by whoever it is at the top. The book is therefore inspirational for all those who work in positions where we are trained to enjoy our supression of our own instincts in favor of what is considered the norm even though it is not what is right or best.Mrs Noem in this enjoyable read from a washington Insider with her feet still on the ground gives us steps how each of us can be apart of not turning back and giving up on America but rather in standing out ground, channeling our anger into others affected so we can out think the bullies and influence change.

I bought this book for the sole purpose of verifying the barbarity of Noem killing an untrained hunting dog that she didn't have the horsesense to keep restrained, allowing the dog Cricket to kill chickens. The untrained, unrestrained dog was following her instincts. Noem brazenly puts in print, "I hated that dog," then executes Cricket in a gravel pit. Then, astoundingly, on the same day, Noem executes an uncastrated billy goat for being a goat in the same gravel pit. Noem clearly misunderstood the outrage of both the left and the right over killing an untrained young pounter. (Yes, 14 months is still a puppy for these breeds.) What kind of person "hates" a dog so much as to execute it? For ruining a pheasant shoot where the penalty is death? Judge Jeanine Pirro rightly observed Americans are a society of dog lovers. In a time where politicians adopt dogs and are photographed kissing them, Noem brags about shooting them execution-style. A public relations disaster.

Well written, I learned a few things I wasn’t aware of. Much public scrutiny regarding some incidents described in the book but being a farm girl/animal lover it didn’t upset me enough to trash the entire book, although I would have handled the situation differently

This book not as pleasant read as her “Not my First Rodeo” - but then today all over the world facing tougher times than it was two years ago.

At the end of October, 2023 in Oslo, Norway --- migration and justice ministers from Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Norway as well as Iceland announced a deal to strengthen efforts for migrants to return to their countries of origin, and to deport illegal residents to third countries.

If immigration is the #1 issue troubling American voters, along with economic hardships — visiting the countries of the Scandinavian peninsula to find out what is working since last year when the plan was laid out — and what’s not; what is applicable to the illegal migrant crisis in the United States and what’s not - could be very productive. Kristi Noem as VP tackling US illegal immigration ---a daunting challenge not many would be up to the task . . .. P.S. - all the countries of Scandinavian have high rating on transparency international .org —- & none by the way have E-voting machines. New Zealand is also high in the ratings . . paper ballots / hand counted and NO DRAMA at election time - that's enough to make Americans cry. I reviewed this book and live in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

Didn’t enjoy reading this at all. Odd structure jumps around a lot. Mentions many events, but only provides sufficient detail for precious few of them. Writing as book of essays would make more sense.

Still contains factual errors beyond those mentioned in media e.g. South Dakota was only state that didn’t shut down during covid. What about Utah, Iowa, Arkansas and others? Would also benefit from more careful proofreading.

On positive side, it is short and easy read.

P.S. In general, 1-star reviews were made in early May presumably during Noem’s book tour. Higher 5-star reviews posted in later May or early June.
