    1. Set-Up The Polk Connect App is required to set-up the Command Bar. I initially had trouble with the set-up, which is managed via WiFi, because the bar kept disconnecting from my iPhone 7. It even disconnected when I stood next to one end of the bar but it, thankfully, remained connected by standing next to the other one. The only wireless device in the vicinity is a 5 yr old Sony DVD/Blu-ray player. The rest of the set-up went smoothly. My TV is an old Panasonic plasma so it only has HDMI (not HDMI ARC) and optical sound sources. I use a Harmony 650 to control everything. The Command Bar assimilated the bits it needed without any further assistance from me. Very sweet.2. Operation I was pleased that the Command Bar responded as expected to the Harmony remote. It switched seemlessly, along with the TV, amongst the different input sources. The bar also responds to voice commands. I really like the ability to adjust the volume by specifying a value between 0 and 100, e.g., "Alexa, volume 50." You can also tell the bar to switch inputs and modes. The mic is sensitive enough to hear my voice over the sound of a floor fan blowing in the same room. I only needed to raise my voice slightly above conversation level. In addition to Alexa's vocal response to audible commands, feedback is provided by multi-colored lights that encircle the Command Bar's physical controls.3. Sound I primarily watch films and TV shows (typically Blu-rays/DVDs or streamed from the Internet) where dialogue is more important than sound effects. I prefer hearing dialogue over immersive sound effects. The Command Bar did a satisfactory job in this area. I especially like "night mode" (one of four sound modes) which emphasizes dialogue by reducing the sound effects. Prior to the Command Bar, I listened to music using Harman Kardon SoundSticks. They were located in the same room as the Command Bar is now. Compared to the Command Bar, the SoundSticks sounded tight. The bar does a great job gloriously filling the 24' x 19' space with whatever I streamed at it over Bluetooth: funk; old 60's, 70's, 80's Dead, and their ilk; acoustic; classical; etc.4. Miscellaneous I don't use Alexa's services and don't plan to join Alexa's ecosystem. I did test it out of curiousity by asking for my local surf report. It provided me with Surfline's report. Cool. The Command Bar's remote doesn't accomodate all AAA batteries. There is a piece in the battery compartment that limits the diameter of the battery. My rechargeable batteries and Duracell Quantums don't fit. Polk proactively improves the performance of the Command Bar via periodic firmware updates. The updates occur automatically. The bar will inform you when an update is performed. One such update significantly improved the mic's sensitivity. Prior to the update, the bar could not hear my voice commands very well over the floor fan mentioned earlier in this review unless I yelled.Overall, I am quite happy with the Command Bar.Addendum: - I received the Polk Command Bar as a promotional item in exchange for my unbiased review. - This is the first soundbar I've owned, so my comments about its capabilities and sound quality are most definitely subjective. - There are plenty of photos of the bar so I just took photos of the packaging.

I have only had this speaker for a few days but I am super impressed with it so far. The dialogue is front and center right out of the box and clearer then any speaker I have owned. I am sure this is related to Polk's audio enhancements for dialogue but it works great without compromising the impact of other sounds. I have not touched any of the dialogue enhancement settings as I feel like the default in "Movie" and "Sports" mode is perfect.

The remote has options to adjust the amount of bass and dialogue enhancement. The one you need to be careful with is the bass setting. If you pump it up too much the sub can distort a bit, it does have only a 6 inch driver after all. As long as you do not expect it to sound like a 10-12 inch sub that goes below 40 Hz you will not be disappointed. The bass that is there is solid and tight without being overwhelming. When you compare to other higher end soundbars this speaker holds up really well for sound dynamics and is still cheaper then many other options. Having the sub on board is definitely a plus over speakers that are lacking this such as the Sonos Beam.

The Alexa function in the speaker seems to work really well. The vast majority of the time Alexa can hear me even when the speaker is turned up a bit. If you like having the volume maxed out you may need to speak louder to be heard by Alexa, but I have not had any issues with it. It hears me better then the microphones on the Sonos One as a comparison. All of the major functions I use Alexa for work as they would with one of Amazon's own speakers. I do not believe you can do calling or drop-in but I rarely use these anyway.

This is a very flat soundbar unlike my previous version which was a Yamaha Digital Sound Projector. Because the Command Bar speaker is flat there is a grill on the top suggesting there may be some speakers sitting on the top of the unit as well as the front and sides. The reason why this is important to know is because putting the speaker in a shelf may not get the best sound quality. I have mine sitting at the top of my TV stand just under my TV and pushed out flushed to the front so the speakers have room to project sounds. There is nothing in other words obstructing the top of the speaker. I have heard some other people online mention that sound quality is much better when the speaker is not in a shelf with something obstructing the top of it.

One additional tip on setup that I came across. When you plug the soundbar in first and then the sub it seems like the sub pairs automatically with the speaker, the green light on the back of the sub was on. After a few days however I noticed there was a static sound coming from the sub sometimes and it would drop in and out. I went through the pairing process in the troubleshooting section and was able to make a smooth connection to the sub. This made the sound better then I have heard since I started using the speaker and I was able to pump up the bass output without distortion. This makes me believe there was a pairing issue with the sub at the beginning. Based on this, I would recommend going through the pairing process to make sure the sub and speaker connection is good.

Overall this is a great speaker especially for the price. I got it on sale for $200 but even at the regular price of $300 it is still a good deal considering sound quality and connective options. I feel like I am hearing things in movies I have not heard before and the dynamics of soft and loud sounds are great. If you want a full blown 5.1 soundbar system the Polk Magnafi Max SR is more expensive with surrounds and a bigger sub. If you want an Alexa soundbar though, it would be hard to find a better deal then this speaker and sub combination for the price.

First off, I bought this specific Soundbar setup after reading tons of reviews. I wanted the built-in Alexa capability and one of the main selling points was that it could be fully integrated into Amazon's multiroom music (MRM). I have several other Echo devices, and this is integration was important to me.

Further, I actually bought this "Used - Like New" from the Amazon Warehouse at a significant discount. It arrived well packaged in a generic large box, and the only thing missing was the user manual which I downloaded from the Polk website. The item looked totally perfect with zero scratches or imperfections, and everything was 100% functional. Someone else seems to have set it up before returning it to Amazon as they did not factory reset the device and some old network information showed up. Once I cleared everything out, it was a breeze to set up and get paired with my WiFi, Amazon account, and Polk account. (Having to create a Polk account just to complete the setup was probably the biggest annoyance.)

Sound quality is better than expected, and the subwoofer definitely adds a lot to the experience. I replaced a Samsung 5.1 home theater setup but I could not run the rear speakers due to an open floor plan and no place to hide wires. This Soundbar doesn't offer rear speakers so I wasn't missing anything there. Actually, this is better because it "pretends" to create surround effects which my old system did not do.

Another major selling point was the close integration with Fire TV devices. I have a 3rd Gen Fire TV (pendent) which is 4K compatible and the on-board Echo allows for excellent voice control of the Fire TV. There is a learning curve for pairing the Echo with the Fire TV, but once complete you can simplify the required phrases/commands given to Alexa to make things happen. The voice commands for play, pause, FF, rewind, etc are super handy when you don't have the remote handy - which is more often the case now. The included Polk Command Bar remote is pretty basic, but I really wish it had a full Fire TV remote built in as there is almost no need for the Polk remote with the voice control.

I currently have this mounted on top of my enclosed TV cabinet so it's about 6 feet above ground. That's not the best placement, but it still sounds great and responds to both voice and IR inputs without having to retrain myself to aim at the ceiling. My wife is happy with the new setup as it simplified the amount to button pushing she had to do before (up to 3 remotes) to almost zero now.

I would buy this again without hesitation. The sound quality is very good, the built in Alexa/Echo capabilities are excellent, and the Amazon Warehouse price was superb. I recommend this for anyone who has a Fire TV device and especially anyone who has invested/immersed themselves in the Amazon Echo ecosystem (see what I did there?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it. Amazing clarity and full sound
Reviewed in Canada on November 14, 2018
Style: Command Bar w/ SubwooferVerified Purchase
So I’ve now had this soundbar for about a month and a half now, I purchased this to replace my home theatre sound system so I can declutter my room and not have speakers everywhere and a big receiver cluttering up my room.
I was nervous at first as my living room is quite large (17’ x 16’) I didn’t think it would fill the room with sound especially considering the room is an open concept and attaches to my kitchen as well.
Well to say I was totally impressed with the how big a sound and how it filled the room is an understatement. It completely fills the room and is very immersive, so I decided to write a review about it.
    Pros
    - Price was great for a quality product definitely feel I got my money’s worth. Great Value
    - Ease of hook up and setup, literally took me less than 10 minutes
    - Love Alexa integration – works amazingly with my Samsung TV
    - Design is great
    - SOUND QUALITY IS AMAZING – For both tunes and Movies
    - Lots of connection options
    Cons
    - Remote is a little clunky however my TV remove easily operates the sound for it so I honestly don’t use the remote plus the app works great
    - Lights on it are kind of annoying as it shines under my tv

    Look and aesthetics
Love the look of it under my TV it is not imposing nor obnoxious looks nice there and has nice aesthetics, the subwoofer is not obnoxious in size and hides away nicely in the room but still fills the room with bass. The only thing a little weird is looking at it from the top literally looks like an echo dot was plopped into the middle but no big deal as you never look at it top down

    Sound
This is where I was concerned before I bought it like I said it’s a big room and an open concept space so thought a soundbar’s sound would get “lost” in the big room.
I was totally impressed with the sound quality and “richness/fullness” of it.
I listen to a lot of music and my music tastes range across all genres and types. Music all sounded great, vocals were very clear all instruments very crisp and recognizable. The “Volume up/down” command using Alexa is not really great because it only moves the volume a very small amount so you have to keep repeating the command. I listened to Dave Mattews album Live at Radio City Music hall and was blown away felt like I was at the concert and wife kept yelling at me to turn it down so it definitely has a big sound.

For regular tv watching sound is perfect I don’t find myself struggling to try and hear conversations and whispers by actors are still clear, I didn’t notice any varying volume across channels or commercials.

For movies, the sound was very rich, very full and the dialogue was very crisp, no struggling to hear what people are saying. The sub offers big bass effects and fills the room completely. With all lights off and watching Star Wars Last Jedi the command bar and subwoofer definitely gave me the movie theatre sound I was hoping for.

All in all, I am super happy with my purchase and feel it was a great value. It definitely exceeded my expectations.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sleek product that is extremely easy to set up

This is my second Polk sound bar for my home entertainment system. I loved my last one - which will live on as a gift to a family member. I wanted to add the Amazon Alexa feature in our TV room and when I saw Polk's new Command Sound Bar contained Alexa I was sold. The unit was extremely easy to set up. The product booklet was simple and clear, but the process is so simple you can easily set it up without referring to the booklet. The occasional voice commands and confirmations add to the ease of set up with the right amount of feedback. The Polk app is intuitive and takes over the set-up once you have all of the physical pieces set up and plugged in. The unit is sleek and because it is lower profile than my last unit it seems to take up less room, even though it is longer. The sleeker subwoofer allowed me to put it closer to my TV which was not possible with my last one given limited space. In addition to having Alexa built in, two of the features I enjoy are a) the ability to switch between sound profiles for movies, sports and music; and b) the LED lights on the centre of the console which give good visual feedback when you are changing the volume or the bass. The sound quality is fantastic and fills the room and is bright and clear. On Sunday I was flipping between football and a movie and the ability to change the sound settings made quite a difference. Overall, having Alexa integrated into my sound bar is not just convenient, it also reduced the need for an additional device taking up space in a relatively small and crowded room. I would buy this again because of the combination of looks, function and ease of set-up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Would love it, if not for the annoying overnight noises

Would rate it 4 or 5 stars, however this device has issues. Had it for almost 6 months so far.

The unit produces wonderful sound, the bar itself produces some really warm bass. Easily fills a bachelor pad/living room or decent sized home office. Not terribly hard to mount on a tv mount with a separate bracket. Looks pretty attractive too. I much prefer it to something boxy and boring like Sono or Samsung/LG

    However, here comes the problems.
    1. The unit always seems to either make a pop bass sound or a high pitched whine for about 5-10 seconds. And always at late nights, between 11pm and 2am. You know how annoying that is to happen almost every night in a bachelor pad?
    2. Alexa always seems to stop working, saying "can't understand you right now, try again later". Only way to fix is to unplug the power.
    3. The polk/Alexa smartphone app is next to useless. I don't remember if it was used for set up. But other than that, it does nothing.

I like that Alexa is built in. I also have a Fire TV Cube connected to my TV and the two don't seem to mind one another. I just changed the name of my Fire TV Cube to "Amazon" that way they don't get confused with one another. I initially had the Fire TV Cube connected to the HDMI port on the sound bar but this was causing issues with switching inputs in until I unplugged the Fire Cube from the Command Bar and hooked it up to the HDMI port directly on the back of my television which has yielded better results and less confusion and glitches that were happening. Polk actually reccomends using a 4K Fire TV Stick when plugging one into the Command Bar as they state the Fire TV Cube and the Command Bar cause conflicts when attached directly to one another. I can't seem to get multi-room audio to function with my Polk Command Bar and other Alexa enabled devices for multi-room music playback. Sometimes it works by using other music service providers and other times not. It was not working for multiroom playback when I attempted to stream music from my Amazon Music account for multiroom playback which is odd and a glitch that I hope gets worked out sooner than later. Spotify seems to work with out any major issues such as freezing up or pausing unexpectedly like what was happening when I attempted multiroom playback using my Amazon Music curated playlists. Excellent voice clarity for watching films or television or news, etc. Alexa's Canadian accent sounds a little more so on the robotic side at times when speaking directly with the Command Bar, but when I use my Fire TV Cube or other Alexa enabled devices she sounds like the normal Canadian accent which I love to listen to and hear audiobooks and news being spoken to me by Alexa in her programmed Canadian accent.

Style: Command Bar w/ SubwooferVerified Purchase
Finally, a product that combines amazing sound with smart technology! I was looking for a sound solution for my living room that did not require me to rewire the room and would fit into a reasonable budget. The Polk Command Bar exceeded my expectations.

The setup was effortless. The actual product uses Alexa and the Polk Connect App to take you through the set-up and connection to your wifi network. I had it connected to my TV and fully functional in about 5 minutes. it is definitely one of those products that feels like it 'just works' with zero aggravation.

As you would expect from a Polk product, the sound is amazing. The speaker combined with the wireless sub delivers a rich full sound that easily filled a very large combined living room and kitchen. The ability to adjust the dialogue volume is a great feature I find myself using regularly to get great clarity on any show or movie I am watching. It works perfectly with my 4k TV.

This was my first foray into the world of Alexa. I must say she is pretty handy. I make all adjustments and switch between different media (TV, Spotify etc) exclusively using Alexa. I don't even know where the remote is, with Alexa you don’t need it. I have also quickly fallen into the habit of asking Alexa things that previously I would use my phone for, like weather and traffic info or setting timers and alarms. This has had the overall effect of less screen time since I don’t get pulled into checking all sorts of other apps and notifications.

I have never experienced sound this good at a price anywhere near this, and adding in the smart home stuff is a huge bonus. You will not be disappointed.
